How to use Photoshop layers for beginners,

Are you able to progressively save a layer as a jpeg or png? For example, if I have 5 layers, but I want to save the combination of 3 unhidden layers as a jpeg or png.

​@McLovin2021 Mclovin Hey McLovin2021, I don't know if your question has been answered although it was some time ago. I am a bit of a novice as well but when I go to "FILE' on the top menu bar, then scroll down to 'place embedded... or place linked' I am offered the options for images to load into PS. Once I choose said image then click on 'place" it is automatically added to my project as a layer. I hope this works for you as I'm not privy to the methods of different PS versions.

Really helpful and very good pace. Please keep up with these “beginner” videos to help us folks who are struggling and frustrated with this extremely over-engineered and powerful tool. Having multiple ways of doing the same thing just seems to make it that many times more difficult and overwhelming to master the application. I have had an uneasy relationship with PS for a long time and have ended up back in LR for my work. But now I am trying to learn to do good real estate interiors. This has brought me back to PS. Only comment I would make is you are very clearly showing layer systems and how they work. What I would have liked fror a complete novice is how did the layers and the ones you want get there in the first place. Love your teaching style and pace.

I really enjoyed the step-by-step instruction! I have a star trails photo and I am desperate to get rid of some of the shooting stars that appear in the photo. Everyone suggested using layers, then the healing brush, and that should do it but there was nothing for me to follow until now. I have several ideas on how to solve it thanks to this back-to-basics video!
