nice! looks like you cut your plugs from the trimmed end of the work piece so the grain match is 👌!

Great vid. Just bought some counter sink drill bits and these came with them and I had no clue what they were for! Just made a bunch of plugs now because I can! Thanks for the quick instructions!

I’ve since tried in a cordless drill too and works surprisingly well which is good to know. 👍

Excellent video. Any thoughts on how much it's worth spending on plug cutters? Will cheaper ones do, or are they too much trouble?
@jjpaq
@jjpaq Жыл бұрын
If in doubt, follow the universal tool rule: buy the cheap one (exception if it has absolutely crap reviews or looks like it'll break on minute 3, of course), and find out firsthand if you need the nice one. 😅 I'm seeing Ryobi cutters with decent reviews for ~$15-20 CAD.

Agree with the previous reply, no need to spend a fortune especially to begin with, the basic ones should be just fine and then upgrade in the future if you think needed. Thanks for watching and good luck!

Is it usable if you use a handheld drill. I don't have a pillar drill
@luxsabre
@luxsabre 4 жыл бұрын
Chicken Dinnerz hi, it’s possible but just have to be careful and steady especially when drilling out the plugs. A cordless drill will probably give more control.

A Dutch KZbin channel gave a clever solution to this: measure your plug cutters outer diameter, take some plywood, make a hole in it matching the outer diameter. Then you can start your hole, using the piece of plywood to keep straight, then take the plywood off to regain your depth.

I have watch so many a pilot hole and countersink went you put two piece of wood together the plug side should be larger the then pilot side to draw them together

Not so easy cutting plugs into hardwoods, you could start a fire!
@luxsabre
@luxsabre 3 жыл бұрын
Have to say, I’ve never heard of that before, plug cutters are generally intended for use with hard woods no problem. It’s just a cutting blade like any drill bit, probably less surface area so I don’t see the risk. And have never seen this after using the same bit hundreds of times.

I heard very good opinions about the Woodglut plans.
Which plug cutter to go with, straight tool or tapered tool?
