Responding a bit later😅. But this analogy has been used waaay back in history. Exactly in the area of philosophy. Immanuel Kant, a XVIII century german philosopher, borrowed this analogy from an abat, a monk, whom also was a thinker. Since then it's called the fisherman's analogy. "Looking the net -says the monk to the fisherman- I can tell what the fishes you're going to catch".

Would you say something like very quickly skimming the lecture slides in the 10 mins before the lecture and noticing concepts is a level of priming? Or just looking up the topic briefly in those 5 mins

In my own understanding, I believe it's less of the time used and more the quantity of topics you're able to pin down,, Putting duration into the formula would then be an extra mile if you wish to increase the efficiency of your priming.

@@random.person.03 Still though, regardless of duration, would quick skimming where you are skipping over harder concepts that are causing a bit of resistance and focusing on more general or simple (foundational) concepts be considered sufficient priming?
@random.person.03
@random.person.03 11 ай бұрын
@@mizu9811 I don't think you should skip harder concepts. I understand priming as simply studying the general definitions of all points for the topic and connecting them with one another. I see priming as a solution to harder concepts, wherein you allow yourself to see it as a rough sketch before diving into the details. If it's the connection process that makes the concept harder to learn, you can then start researching about the details of the details for that specific point. (p.s. i haven't fully grasped priming as well so take my words with a grain of salt 😅)

Skimming is like going through the table of contents. So yes, I do think that is a way to prime learning about a certain topic

Justin has a study-with-me session somewhere on youtube (the 2-hour long one) where he shows priming in action and describes his process in more detail, if you guys need more clarification.
