I actually had this epiphany in a different way a while ago- I just resolved that whenever I revise, I must find something new in the topic I'm revising. That way I really work my brain. And the video corroborates this, so I'm soo happy :) Only thing is my brain can't handle it that much and gets really tired lmao

ngl. I may have been that "studying in the exam student" today. This morning I learned off a whole essay in another language (400+) words in just about two hours. I have to say, it's all thanks to you Justin. Your technique of modified loci and memory palace was so incredibly effective. I always thought I had a horrible memory but now I realise I just memorised things wrong. Love your content, keep it up!

Hello Justin! I've been devouring everyone of your vids, rewatching, sharing with friends. Really, i think you created a so powerfull image of learning and studying for me, that just connected the dots - i mean, i read about learning a lot, and everything just seems unconnected, fuzzy, but the pair encoding-retrieval just works as a metatheory of why and how all sorts of techniques works. A huge thanks! Now, i have to ask: do you thinks its possible that in a given scenario, it would be more _efficient_ to study with lower order learning techniques? V.g. you have a lot of material to learn, and the test is known to be a very superficial/dry (like asking the literal of a given source).
@johnmiller6696
@johnmiller6696 Жыл бұрын
I believe L.o.L/T techniques are effective and useful when you need to learn information where you don't need the full background knowledge of the subject. You should also use it the way it is intended as Justin has explained before. Effective use of these techniques are very closely connected to encoding as one of the first findings of research relating to it are of rehearsal. This has very obvious connections with many psychology theories of conditioning aswell.

How can I organize when to revise? Can I use anki for this porpuse? Insted of putting all the informations there, just creating one card just to remind me to review? And then revising trying to teach someone, or trying to rewrite the mindmap you made, or somethint like this?

This was great for me, especially as a confirmation that I’m going down the right path and I can sort of see that with my practice scores. One thing I struggle with is the timing of when to do your review sessions. Right now I try to do it once a week for the past week and then a broader one for the end of month, but is there a certain spacing that is the most effective?

What is “revision”? Feel like we have a different definition in USA. “Revision” to me is making edits and corrections. How does teaching do that? I feel like revision means something different in Australia. Maybe we’d say “review”? Attending a lecture is one way to review material

@justin_sung I hope that you see this Dr Sung, cause I really need your guidance on this. I am struggling with the processing and management of my handwritten notes. This part of my workflow is eating up all my time but is still dyafunctional. How am I meant to use the notes I have written? How long should I keep them? How to summarize, Sort, relate them in an efficient manner? I want a minimalistic RoI approach of workflow. But atm I am truly burried in stacks of notes of mindmaps etc. And Yes, it's of my thoughts and not what external information. Hope you see this Dr Sung, take care.

Hi. You may not read this but if you do then thanks. I'm from the uk doing gcse in 6 months. I watch your videos and practice with past papers and flashcards and teaching myself. But I was told I failed one of my test. It was my physics test. I feel useless and revising was a waste of time. What should I do with this feeling?
@rileygshep7606
@rileygshep7606 Жыл бұрын
Channel those feelings to do better next time, see which part of the studying system needs improvement, 1 failure doesn’t mean you fail the entire time that you have been in school. Business owners, 95% of them fail within 5 years, 50% of them fail in their 1st year, those who refuse to give up no matter what setbacks whether lack of funding or too much debt or not knowing enough, ineffective marketing etc, the ones who succeed as a business owner are the ones who try again and not give up, they learn from their mistakes, and change their habits so that they can do better the next time. So then, if you feel revising is useless and waste of time, clearly something is wrong there, if you are using predominantly just flashcards just to revise, you aren’t going to engage in higher order thinking and frankly takes up way too much time if you have lots of stuff to revise and learn. And also when you are revising, you must make sure that you are not looking at your notes or flashcards or anything that can give you a hint, so that you are truly recalling the information like you would in a exam You got this!
