it's very relevant in this case though, although you could probably gather that as the video went on

You have got to be kidding me, I just watched your previous video about QEMU, because I was troubleshooting my issue. But I realised that you posted your last video a long time ago, and never posted a followup. I shed a tear and moved on, but then realised I wanted to watch the video about the best music player on Linux, so I revisited your channel. To my great surprise, this very video had just been uploaded! You made my day! Still haven't figured out my problem, but that's alright haha.

I'm happy hear that! I've been gone a long time now and hated to see this channel stagnant. What kind of issue are you having with QEMU?

Good to hear you are back! I have subscribed in the meantime :) I am having major performance issues, on a i7 3770k, 24GBs of RAM, and a 980ti running Arch. I used to use a W10 VM for a long time, ignoring the 10 minutes it takes to start FireFox for instance. I am using a QEMU script I found online, because I couldn't get QEMU running manually. I have enabled KVM and Intel Virtualisation, I am also using a special UEFI image to "enhance" performance even further. I don't know what works and what doesn't. I tried installing a W7 VM today, but that is suffering from the same issues. I am using SPICE and libvirt drivers by the way. I have no idea on how to boost performance, I absolutely don't mind reinstalling the guest if needed.

This was my first time with qemu, at first I didn't realize I had to use qemu-img if I wanted a dynamically allocated virtual drive. I thought it would be like Vbox and be included in the GUI. I have Ubuntu 18.04 running now though, thanks for reminding me about VMM, I had forgotten that was a thing. I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 now, but python 2 is no longer natively supported on it. So I figured it would be just easier to use a VM rather than to break the current apps that rely on python 3 to have priority. And the python 2 libraries were installed through aptitude on 18.04 without a hitch.

Can you make a video on the networking aspect like (bridge , NAT, host only ) in qemu. show some topologies.

I'm pretty impressed with Qemu's performance in comparison to Virtualbox and VMWare, but I can't seem to get sound to work.

For anyone not sure if your CPU can support virtualization, please check your manufacturer's spec sheet. For example, for an Intel i5 7400 CPU you can follow the link (ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/97147/intel-core-i5-7400-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-50-ghz.html) and see that VT-x and VT-d are available.

Not necessarily old hardware, I'm running a 2008 thinkpad and it does support KVM and is automatically recognised by the linux kernel.

In the dropdown of the Video selection, I don't have an entry with VMGA. Only QXL, VGA and Virtio. Virtio is much better then QXL for me, but not quite there yet. I don't see my native monitor resolution in the settings of windows.
