Im a public servant. Public service training sessions are a slow painful horrible day that NEVER ends, Days that you dread. I sat my Class 2 HT license four years ago (2017) and this young chap took the class. There were 12 of us all from various countries, backgrounds and different abilities/skills. The first day class session was 8am till 5pm, all day with a lunch break at 12pm. The next day was the practical exam. That first day class session was the most engaging training session I'd ever been in. He kept everyone up to speed at the same pace, made it highly informative, engaging and fun. (and English is his second language) Not at any point in the whole day did I once look at my watch! That takes some skill.....

@@r22jeff Thing is I don't think 'how to tie this shit to the truck' is part of the test to get your truck licence. I'm a crane driver and had to figure shit out myself on how to tie down the 1200mm-round thick rigger mats that I had to put on the deck of a 55 grove because the owner goofed up in getting those instead of metre or 800mm-rounds for the backbox, and guess how many times this sucker was last person on site and fell on his ass and head (... so many headaches...) because trying to lift those mats either required breaking the rules of manual handling (I HAVE to bend my fucking back, I can't get a corner! THERE IS NO CORNER) or saying fuck it and leaving them on site. Okay I was a crane driver for a long-while before that particular job (fcking stupid shitting bollocking twatting bullshit), but still, loading and securing a ballast trailer with 50t of ballast (3x 9t slabs, 2x 13t cheeks), rigger mats (2m x 2m square metal mats), and lifting gear, no one ever said "this is how you stop this HOLY SHIT I LOADED AND SECURED PIECES UP TO THIRTEEN FUCKING TONNES WITHOUT TRAINING. AND NO ONE DIED SO, DID IT RIGHT WITHOUT KNOWING IF IT WAS GOOD OR NOT?) Seriously why haven't I seen these things as a fucking course you have to take? I worked as an agency worker for a bit at a furniture distribution warehouse and had to load their trucks and IT WASNT IN ANY TRAINING. Or at least, training amounted to just... "Right so these go up top, these go on bottom, reverse delivery order so first deliveries loaded last". I GUESSED at what those dangling straps inside the box were for and used them...

Been using ratchet straps for 33 years and just learned a new trick! Avoiding edge damage while using the strap is paramount though. Keeping the webbing/strap totally parallel while ratcheting up is essential! So many people just ratchet up and get the edges trapped! It ruins your straps quickly. Excellent video, cheers!

@safe driver training. I have been securing loads to pickup trucks and trailers for almost 40 years. Dirt bikes, firewood and odd stuff growing up and onto my 40s. I was in the Navy 11 years and sent 5 of those at sea and securing heavy aircraft topside for heavy seas many times. And most recently I pick up about 2 to 4 tones of materials and transport 150 to 300 miles to build once a week. I have never had problems with straps as you learn them better the more you use them. But you sir just saved me tones of time bundlinng and laying out the tails. I just spent 5 minutes hands on at my trailer and got your method down perfect. Thanks for teaching an old sailor and ranch hand a thing or two about the ropes.

No reason at all mate, some are just petty and small minded. They will thumb it down because they don't like the colour of his shirt, or his accent, or the brand of straps or some other completely idiotic reason. Or it's because he is able to do something they cannot learn to do. Green eyed monster type thing. Meanwhile the rest of us have just learnt something valuable and useful. I have used straps for years, but always struggled when it came to dealing with the tail properly and professionally. It has always been a bugbear for me. Now that problem is solved once and for all. Thankful for the great video and clear explanation!

He didn't get enough turns on the ratchet drum per the manufacturer of the strap. The drum should have more than 1 full wrap before it gets taut. Pulling the strap taut before winching will not put enough strap on the drum for a good bite. Overall it is a good video except that one mistake can cause the strap to pull through the drum. Thus defeating its purpose.
@Quacks0
@Quacks0 4 жыл бұрын
@@rpeterson3951 Yes, I always make sure to have at least two or three full wraps of strap on the drum, especially for a heavier load that would likely strain a lot more on the strap as the vehicle goes over bumps. Captain Fantastic is right, though, about how there is really nothing to "dislike" about this video; some shallow-minded people simply LIKE to DISLIKE a video "because they can"... it gives them a selfish sense of empowerment, and/or they falsely think that doing so "makes them famous for five minutes".

I tried your method of how to secure the load, making it look professional, and it was the best, easiest way to do it. Thank you.

What an excellent video. The strap slack storage is sheer professionalism. That has always been my frustration. I hope I can remember this on my next load. We can't do the half twist to prevent wind vibration here in Ontario Canada, though, because we'll get fined for that.
