An elder bungie cord cost my nephew's wife to lose the load and when she pulled off of the road and tried to retrieve her small load it cost her her normal life. She now has the mental capacity of a 3 year old. Do yourself a favor and listen to this man (Canadian I think) and tie down the load. Also inspect the tie downs for age and wear. I was also a CVSS (Commercial Motor Vehicle) inspector prior to my retirement and have witnessed some horrific fatalities. Sir thank you for sharing and expressing safety.

Great system you put together Steve. I just returned from moving my son back from school near Detroit and secured his bed in the box of my truck with ratchet straps and enjoyed a safe 8 hour drive home. You are responsible for securing your load so I’m all in for any ideas that make that happen. Thanks Buddy!

I have picked up 2 ladders and seen one more that was destroyed. I kept both ladders. About 10 years apart and the second ladder went to replace my grandma’s old wooden one that was older than dirt and a fall risk. I have also seen mattresses on the interstate.

In 1989 I was driving to work and saw a huge box at the side of the road. It was windy out and the box wasn't moving, so I figured it wasn't empty. I pulled over to check it out and it was a brand new leather La-z-boy recliner inside the box (more of a cardboard covered crate). The La-z-boy store was about two blocks back. I drove there and they were able to figure it was probably dropped by an "old guy" who had bought it about half an hour ago. I left them my phone number and the guy left a message on my answering machine when I got home. He got his chair back and he gave me $50 for my time. I didn't want the cash but he insisted. I've never like a cap on my trucks but I out one on my F150 because I don't use the truck in winter so I store stuff in the back. I know how much it sucks having to crawl in to get stuff. I've been thinking about building some kinda slide out deck. You should build one first and I'll copy it!

I figured for sure you would have an 8’bed on your truck. Was really surprised to see a 5 footer. I bought one of those flip-up and-down cages. Not the best answer but it works. Sort of. You may have to look into wheel-to-wheel running boards. Something to support you as you reach over to hook up the straps. Many years ago I took old inertubes. Cut them into small lengths and fill them with sand. And then tied the ends with clamps or wire. Cable ties work also. Instant sandbags. They last for a few years. Nice show.

I have the boards like you have, but I never thought about the fact I could add those d-rings to help tie stuff down. I have a tool box on my truck, so I dont have access to the front tie-downs in the truck bed. I keep a board there to keep leaves and stuff from accumulating under the tool box, because I got tired of having to clean under it constantly. Adding some rings to it would be useful at times. Thanks for the idea

I mounted e track below the bed rails on both sides and snapped in 4 mounts for dimensional lumber which lets me move the lumber every couple of inches along the entire length of the truck bed. A sheet of plywood sits on top of this secured by a couple of hitch pins. I mounted folding table legs to the plywood so that it can be used as a worktable when off the truck. A couple of bins, a cooler, and a Pelican sled seems to suit my needs the best. An old hockey stick fishes stuff out of the box if needed cuz I'm too old to crawl around as well. Your design is more cost efficient though.

Good points about securing the load from the viewpoint of an accident. That is also how I view it, even with big heavy items. They become missiles in an accident. I don’t want anything coming out of the truck bed that is going to hurt anybody.

The capacity of a strap must also take into account, for example, the deceleration force of a panic stop. If you slam on the brakes at 40mph, a 40-lb box tugs on that strap with many times more "force" than the weight of the box.

You’ve thought out what you needed pretty well but there are people out there who can’t design something if their lives depended on it. As for those totes being waterproof, I know they’re not and I’ve had the experience of having to clean rust off my tools to cuz I thought the totes kept water out. To get stuff out the back from the front of the box, a telescopic paint roller handle with a bare 3” paint roller handle screwed to the threaded end does the job nicely.

Very handy and secure way to transport stuff. Thankyou Sir. I've purchased many sizes of those storage boxes. They are tough and well made. I always wondered, why are storage containers like these sized according to "liquid" amounts? 10 gallon, 15 gallon, 20 gallon... Who the heck ever puts, pours or stores liquid in them? It would be like sizing gas cans or gas tanks according to cubic inches. I'm gonna ask Jeeves and get to the bottom of this!!

This is a good idea but they make load lock bars for pickup trucks… much easier
@SteveRobReviews
@SteveRobReviews 9 ай бұрын
The load bars are good but in a collision they are poor at keeping the load in the box.

They also cost more than a 2x6.

@@xCCflierx yes the do. But they will keep things more secure because you can put it how ever you need it. Not to mention it will not rot… I’m not putting down his ideas because they are good. Just stating load bars are a much better option. Just in case people don’t know they exist.

@@F150customs you're right. Especially if you want multiple sections, it's so much easier. I'm just saying wood is the cheaper option. If you have a cap(like I do) you have less to worry about wood rotting. When it does, maybe I'd save enough for something more sturdy

Do you like your magnifying light? I am looking for one but it would be nice to get a recommendation Great tip on the milk crate. Those plastic 'feet' they sell are a rip off and complete junk

$150.00 worth of lumber, in 2022 that's what about 15-20 studs. Can't wait for lumber prices to come down to normal.

Never use bungee cords to secure cargo in your truck. I'm not a big fan of cheap cargo nets either, depending on your cargo. safety first.

What are you hauling that a bungee or cargo net won't hold in place? Wtf

Tarp straps (bungee cords) are intended to be used for securing a tarp not for securing loads.
