what about gerund forms of reported verbs>?

Can we use the reporting verb in present? 1:41 He promises....
@anglopod7 жыл бұрын
Hi Marisa, we're making a promise about the future here so: "He promises that he WILL do it" (or "He promises TO do it") but in both cases we're making a promise about something in the future ;)

Please make a video about PASSIVE REPORTING VERBS because I have watched lots of videos on KZbin but they make me quite confused if V1 and V2 are in the simple past tense or V1 is in simple past tense and V2 is in the past continuous tense. They have many versions of those, so the more I have watched, the more I become confused. Ex1: They said Tom killed the man. Version 1: Tom was said to have killed the man. Version 2: Tom was said to kill the man. So, which one is correct? Ex2: They said Tom was watching TV. Version 1: Tom was said to have been watching TV. Version 2: Tom was said to be watching TV. So, which one is correct?

Hi there, sorry for the late reply! Very interesting questions. V1 is correct in these cases, meaning "people said (in the past) that Tom killed the man (further back in the past)". That does sound like an interesting video. I'll put it on my list ;)

Hi sir, How can we understand that which form of verb we use

Hi there, sorry for the late reply! The form of the verb will depend on what you are trying to say. I hope the video made it clear in the examples.

sir i want to know why haven't we used HE INSISTS THAT HE DOES IT? INSTEAD OF HE DO IT...??
@anglopod6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tanvi, good question. Basically, this structure is subjunctive ('He insists that he DO it") but these days this form sounds more formal so informally people also say: "He insists that he DOES it" or "He insists that he SHOULD DO it".

In 5:41 shouldn't be: he suggest that he doES it?
@ВиталийСлонов-ч4ъ7 жыл бұрын
Przemyslaw Konopka The sentence you refer to is fine, by the way; there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Hi there, in this case 'do' is subjunctive so we use the infinitive form
