How to Use Sighter Wax and Sighter Paint Markers for Euro Nymphing

We've had a lot of questions about sighter wax and sighter paint markers recently. In this video I walk you through the products we carry in the Tactical Fly Fisher Store. I tell you the pros and cons of each and show you how to apply and remove them.

I just realized how much you've helped me develop my system of fly fishing. My Grandfather gave me my first fly rod in the 60s. I've been tying flies for years and began building my fly rods from blanks. We used 4lb mono and weighted flies such as the "Yella Hammer " and the "Bear Man Fly" catching Native Brook and wild rainbow and brown trout in my youth. However, you have helped fine tune my approach and adapt it to BIG WATERS where I'm successful beyond belief. So thank you!!!

Using the Adams White line with these markers makes a big difference. Also hand sanitizer works great for getting rid of the solid paint.

Can you do a side by side sight comparison for the 3 options? hard to tell the difference only showing one at a time

As always a great vid from TF. Scrubbing 7x tippet with Mr Clean Magic Eraser must surely impact the tippet. Have you noticed damage? Thanks

If you squish hard and it grabs the marker too much then it can grab the tippet and cause abrasion. If you use light pressure and it gradually rubs the marker off, then it won’t damage the tippet in my experience.

Good video, Devin. I have used Skafars and the newer Adams Sight Marker with multiple colors in the tube. I did not like the later product at all - drying with this product takes too much precious time and the multiple colors in the tube sort of meld together. Sticking with the orange Skafars.

The Adams markers had some production issues from combining the colors in the same tube. I haven't had those issues with the single color Sakura solid markers or pen touch markers. Personally, I would recommend giving the regular Sakura products we sell a shot. I tend to use them a lot more than the Skafar's wax these days.

Great vid as usual Devin! Super informative! ?: Have you tested the new Adams "Sight Marker?" - I think it is supposed to pair with a ceramic coated material which seems "draggy' but I'm unsure lol -Pablo S.

Pablo, the Adams markers are just Sakura Markers where they put multiple colors in the same tubes. Unfortunately, the initial batch we received had some production issues and the colors mixed together a bit, so I don't find them very useful. The straight single color Sakura markers work just fine on the Adams material though.

Some days I like to put more pink wax on my waders and pack than I do on the leader. I feel like it helps me fish better 😉😅

I always have a little pink spot on my pack and my cork has a pink tinge from skafars wax on my thumb… but doesn’t bother me at all…

I second this question, I’ve used the c&f one for ages but honestly the plastic housing is pretty fragile and the foam slots tend to wear out. something a little more robust with silicone fly slots would be great

It's a Fulling Mill Chest Patch. They are supposed to be available for sale in December and we will definitely be carrying them in the shop.

How do you get the product off your hands? I have pink spots all over my gear… thanks Devin- another great video

Hand sanitizer or alcohol pads will typically remove it from tippet so I assume you could also use it for your hands and gear. Eventually it ends up wearing off my hands during the day with repeated friction, so I haven't paid too much attention to it.

Do you use a tippet ring to attach Adams line to tipper material? Size ring? Sending in an order soon, valuable information in all your videos.

I tend to tie tippet directly to my micro leaders, but a tippet ring works too but I would use the smallest size available. Tippet rings do cause a bit of sag because of the weight which will be visible when using micro leaders.

I once made the mistake of using Skafras on a hot summer day, it got all over my contact ii after several hours of fishing the rod was many shades of pink

how do these products compare with the sighter wax from Hareline and Sci Angler's new markers? Thank you.

The Hareline sighter wax is not as bright and it's a bit sticky. The SA markers are the exact same markers that they added a package to and charge more money for it.
