There are just so many questions right from the outset that are not answered. This tutorial launched into the process far too quickly. What is the communication medium? Is it the telephone, the internet or e-mail? What is my profile, is it my e-mail address or something else? If so, what? How does one decide what communication medium to use? If by telephone, then presumably there is a phone charge. Skype is usually said to be free but there are little cash registers around and one feels that just one wrong move and the bills will start racheting upwards. Why do I need an account if I want to use Skype free of charge? The tutorial needs a prequel to set the scene. At the moment it is unfathomable for a beginner. Howfinity is too knowledgeable to understand how and where to begin.

Skype is my main phone service. It is on all my devices. I pay approx 100.00 a year for a phone number and the ability to connect to POTS/CELL. This way people can call me no matter where I am or what device I have with me. So long as I have a data connection be it wifi or cellular data I’m connected. Skype has other benefits, but Messenger can also do all those things. So few people use Skype and so many use messenger. It’s sad really. If Microsoft pulled their heads out of their backsides. They could have a full Phone service, unlimited calls to land and cell, phone number, texting and video calls. For 150.00 a year. I would happily pay that for a full service service like that. But MS insists on charging for each text. This my be the biggest reason that Skype was overlooked by the masses as a mobile VOIP service. And believe it or not, people will pay for it. As the movie said. Build it and they will come. Make the entire package available for a reasonable price with unlimited service for the year and people will come

I having a problem adding a contact. When I click on new contact and I go to add the phone number it says that the phone number is invalid. The number is correct when I select it from my phone. I’m using Skype on my Laptop. Also when you key in a person name to look for a contact instead of entering a phone number I’m getting multiple people with the same name. When you add a phone number I think it requires the international version. Hence start with the international *country* code, followed by the phone number with the leading zero removed. When you look for somebody it's a great help to use their SKYPE name (rather than their real name).

Skype sucks, the GUI is VERY misleading... The reason u use the thing is to make VIDEO CALLS. This is the main readon, so this should be the main thing on the screen. "Message" is accuate, ie, text messaging ONLY. But there is no clear button, etc, that just says VIDEOCALL. So u have to hope u are pressing the right button. Leave it to Bill Gates to make a simple thing as complicated as possible - the man knew and knows nothing about technology, like Steve Jobs, he is a marketer, and his partner (s),was the one (s) who did all the technical thinking and work.
