Very good and thorough tutorial. Glad I found this tutorial - for one thing, Sony's User Guide sure is worthless. Had this little dynamite camera for several years but just now finally finding out the "wheres & whats" of many of these control features. Thanks much my friend for posting this and being so straight forward and thorough.

Wondering how to use your new Sony camera?? It can be a hard learning curve and in this video I will breakdown all the key features that matter. All the newer Sony cybershot and alpha cameras have the same menu system and basic features. So, come along for a ride using the RX100 III and see how and what the camera can do for you ;) #sony #cybershot #sonyalpha #howto #photography #photographytips #rx100 #sonyrx100 #sonyphotography #sonyphoto

Curious how the Sony cameras work in comparison to the Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and others?? Then check out this breakdown of how the Sony RX100 III works, because all the Sony cameras work very much the same. Some offer different features, but the core concepts like focus modes, focus area, metering modes, etc.. all apply.

at about 5:00 you talk about shooting RAW giving you the best possible quality but it will need more work. I'm new and I don't know what that means, what program to use or what else it means. I find that I take blurry images with the camera at times so I would like to know how shooting raw works
@Jason_Hermann4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayed, when I was referring to getting better quality when shooting raw I did not mean focus or sharpness. Raw files when compared to Jpeg files, have more editing latitude when using a image post processing program like Lightroom for example. As far as getting your photo sharp, you will need to make sure you have the correct focus and shutter speed in order to freeze the action if subjects are moving. A raw photo is basically un-edited. A Jpeg file is processed by the camera and compressed so the file size is significantly smaller than the raw file. Therefore the raw file contains more data in the highlights and shadows in particular, which allows for more advanced highlight and shadow recovery when post processing. I hope that helps! Jay

Hi Jay, I'm new to Sony digital cameras (been a Canon shooter since the 70s) and just received my little RX100 IV this weekend. I'm amazed (and also a bit overwhelmed) with all its features (how can such a tiny thing pack so many features?) and was looking for a tutorial, which brought me here. Since the Mark 4 was released at about the same time as Sony's flagship A7RII, everyone seems to concentrate on it and I couldn't find any tutorials/help for us new Mark 4 users, but your RX100 III video was still very helpful to me. Thanks a lot! The one feature I'm struggling with right now is Flexible Spot Focusing. I'd like to keep that setting. Is there a simpler way to access it, without having to go into Functions and select it each time? I've been playing with it, but couldn't find a quicker way. Anyway, I'll subscribe and maybe you'll do another tutorial for the Mark 4 some day?

Wow Jay!! Awesome tutorial! I have the RX100V in which I'm using manual focus for video by using the focus ring. It's really touchy along with needing to rotate quite a bit to find good focus. Do you have any tips for a quicker way to achieve focus throughout the entire frame such as wide? Will one of the Spot focus modes achieve most of the frame? I'd like to add, if I turn the camera off then back on, it looses the manual focus that I spent time on. As you know, time is a killer on heat issues along with battery life on these when shooting 4K. Thanks again for your awesome video! I'm definitely going to archive it. Great job buddy!! 😊😊👍

I use the 24p in the USA, so that would be 25p in your case. The 50p and 100p is for higher frame rates and allows for slowing down the video in post processing.

Hey Jay! Thanks for your GREAT teaching! I hope you can help me with this: A 'pro' fiddled with my settings when the moon eclipsed!! Ever since I have problems with Intell Auto only focussing in one area whereas I need most of say an interior shot to be in focus. Is that an easy fix?? Thanks a mill. ;-)
@Jason_Hermann6 жыл бұрын
Hi Toni, It sounds like the cameras focus point got changed, but I didn't think you could do that in intell Auto Mode. Basically you want the focus set to wide mode, so it sounds like the camera is automatically picking a point to focus on. Which camera specifically are you using?
@drdunk13236 жыл бұрын
I have had this camera for about a year and only have used it a few times just in the auto mode ! I would really like to learn how to take night pictures of the moon etc ! Any tips you might be able to help me with ! I’m a beginner lol Mark
@Jason_Hermann6 жыл бұрын
For moon photos I would set the camera to spot metering mode. This will expose for the currently in the night sky. If you use average metering mode, the moon will most likely be way to bright. I would also use the center focus area to limit the amount of focusing the camera will do.
