first - love your videos! but i cant restore the start up scenes, it appears to be replaced and i cant find it now

Hey! Sorry for the inconvenience. I should have explained how to do this in the video. The startup scene actually does not exist as a .bip file. It's coded into KeyShot. The easiest way to do this is to manually update the path. In the same place you loaded the the startup studios .bip I provided you with, you need to change the name of the file I provided you with, with the word 'startup.bip'. So, on Windows, it would look something like this: C:/Users/Your User Folder/Documents/KeyShot 10/Scenes/startup.bip That should work!

Of course! Not a problem. If you're using the newest version of KeyShot, they now have scene templates, which is pretty much the same as what I did here. But when I made this video and file, Scene Templates did not yet exist. Glad you learned something new!

Thanks so much!!! I don't understand why Keyshot itself doesn't comes with a few of these, it would make things much easier. 95% of the time I want to render a product I don't need super specific lighting, just some interior/exterior, harsh/soft light, seemless-/realistic textured walls, and a few other basic parameters that should come in preset scenes like this one.

A little bit too complicated for my taste as I would most likely end up altering the scene quite a bit. Still, I'm going to download it and use some of the premade settings. I have been putting off making a startup file for a while now. Thanks Will for giving me a nudge in the right direction!

Hey Will, it's a common mistake to refer to an orange color temperature as "warm" and a blue color temperature as "cool". Yes it's counter intuitive (KS light material name doesn't help) but when measuring in Kelvins cool temperatures are orange and warm temperatures are blue.
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 2 жыл бұрын
Totally! Though I've found it quicker to use the colloquialism as to avoid having to explain each time when someone things I've misspoken. Sometimes it's easier to 'join them' if you know what I mean.

I currently setting up a render studio for the design firm I'm working at. This video was super helpful! I was wondering if you could just resize the products to fit 1 studio, instead of making different size studios. What would be the downsides of that?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! The reason I don't recommend it is because both materials, textures and lights are based on physical units. Everything from transparent to translucent materials to lights and physically-based textures to depth of field on cameras won't produce realistic results.

This is Amazing and THANK YOU! Question, when I drag and drop the model set into the "Lamp" model set that I created, it doesn't add it to the lamp set it creates it's own with the name of the lamp. What am I doing wrong? EDIT: For some reason it ONLY happens when I import the Hector Lamp. I downloaded a few other models and they work exactly as you are showing in the video. Still would love to know what may be causing it.

Thank you very much will for the video!!!! It's really usefull. I just have one question, could you tell me why when I try to render white materials using physical lights I lose the roughness of the material making it almost completely flat?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear that! I have no idea... not without seeing an example. Roughness should not be affected by physical lights.

Thanks so much for these! The one issue I’m having is a complex object (car) with lots of parts. I want to render the car with a transparent background but have the floor shadows on a separate layer in the psd file. Sure I could render a version with the floor and shadows and then one without the floor and shadows and combine in photoshop. But is there a better way to do directly in Keyshot? I saw your “key” video, but that was with a simple object. So I wasn’t able to apply the same method at least from my tests.. Ideas?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, unfortunately, there isn't a simpler way to achieve what you're after. Making use of render layers and multiple renders is really the only way I know how to do this. The same principals apply though. You can copy your car into a new model set and just apply an emissive material to the entire model in the scene tree. Then, make it invisible to camera and set its color to black.

Hey, I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. It should automatically forward you to the File Vault. Not sure what browser you're using.

@Will Great video. We use Keyshot 11 and I imported your scene as in your video. The keyshot performance is bad and slow if I try to adjust the camera or place an object into it. So I have little ability to work with it. Do you have any idea how to improve the performance of Keyshot 11? Looking forward to your feedback. Attached are my PC specs: Intel® Core™ i7-12700K Processor (25 MB Cache/12 Cores NVIDIA RTX A4000, 16 GB, 4 DP (Dell Precision 3660T) 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! This doesn't sound right... I mean, you have a pretty powerful machine, so it's odd that you're seeing such low performance that you can't work in this way. What happens if you set the lighting settings to 'basic'? This will ideally smooth things out in the real-time view and when you're ready to render, you can go back to the product mode preset or any other settings you want.

@@WillGibbons Thank you very much for your help. It actually helped a bit. But its still not that fluent like in your tutorial :D But the results with your studio are nice! Are there any parameter so that the use of the interface of keyshot gets more fluent? In the task manager I see that the cpu, ram or gpu is not at 100% so I think there is no hardware issues.

nice video. Does this method work great for jewelry?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 2 жыл бұрын
It could, but in my experience, you might be better off using the HDRI editor as I showed with the diamond ring tutorial I did. This is because you often need to add lots of specific reflections to jewelry. This setup would work better for more diffuse products I would think. However, give it a shot and see. Also, jewelry is quite small, so you'd probably need to scale down the small studio quite a bit to make it work for you.

@@WillGibbons I think your speed is fine....what annoys me about the luxion vids is that they're not even numbered, so it's hard to find an order to go though them. Then it's more about bragging about all the stuff you can do, instead of explaining comprehensively HOW to achieve such results. This is where I think your way of explaining is much better. I learned AfterEffects via linkedin learning (lynda back in the days) and it was great to have the same files/geometry to work on, so I'll get your files from the vault and see how that goes. thanks in advance.
