The basic structure of supposed to Sub+be verb+supposed to+base form verb Uses: 1)Duty,Responsibility, Obligation *I am supposed to be there at 10.00 am. *you are supposed to listen to this lesson carefully . *why are you late? You were supposed to be there at 10.00 am. *(future )I am supposed to attend my friend's wedding next week in madurai. *(past) I was supposed to attend my friend's wedding last week. But I didn't/couldn't because I fell ill suddenly. *I was supposed to finish this work yesterday. What's the difference between "I was supposed to be there at 10 clock" and "I should have been there at 10 clock"

These two are different and mean totally different things. Please see the following explanation. "I should have been" is what you consider as important. When you say this, you realise your mistake of not being there at 10 O' clock. Perhaps you say this after 10 O' clock. But, in "supposed to be there", you say this when your presence there at 10 O' clock is expected of you by others. You are yet to go there and say this before 10 O' clock.

Supposed to என்பதற்கு "வேண்டும்" என்று ஒரு குத்து மதிப்பாக அர்த்தம் வைத்துக்கொள்ளலாம். அதை எதிர்மறையாக சொல்லும் போது "வேண்டாம்" என்பதை காட்டிலும், நீங்கள் சொன்ன வாக்கியத்தில் "கூடாது" என்று வைத்துக்கொள்ளலாம். For "வேண்டும்" opposite word is, "கூடாது". செய்ய வேண்டும் செய்யக்கூடாது. இருக்க வேண்டும் இருக்க கூடாது என்பதைப்போல. I am not supposed to tell = நான் பேசக்கூடாது. I am supposed to tell = நான் பேச வேண்டும். என் அபிப்பிராயம் என்ன வென்றால் , மொழிபெயர்த்து படிக்கக்கூடாது. இருந்தாலும் நான் நமது மக்கள் எளிமையாக புரிந்து கொள்வதற்ககாக மொழி பெயர்க்கிறேன். மொழிபெயர்ப்பது எனக்கும் கஷ்டமாகத்தான் இருக்கிறது.
