I am new to needle felting but not to textile arts. I heard your comment about multiple trays for coloring and heating and thought it would be nice for those waxes to be colored in a tea candle form. I am going to start collecting a few so as I start creating hooves, noses, etc. I will have a place to keep and reheat colored swax. Poor hubby doesn't know his morning coffee warmer is going to be repurposed. Thank you for the great tutorials, they give directions and allow our inner creativity to use them in different directions.

The less shiny hoof for the horse looked like a mustang's hoof, or maybe a non show horse that has good care, but tends to not get shoes often. Very nice options and ideas. One day, I will hopefully have some felting stuff to try this and other projects with.

By the way, this looks much easier for 3D animal art than trying to form an animal from crocheted shapes (amigurumi) or knitting something.

I'm very new to needle felting, having just finished my first project, but am intrigued by it. I'm making animals for my grandchildren so, while I like the idea of Swax and think it'd be great for a sculpture that's just to look at, I don't want to give them something that has a 'slightly tacky' feel to it. Any technique suggestions (besides clipping with scissors) to decrease the amount of fuzz? Oh and thx for posting these tutorials, hope to get to your shop someday!

is that like pva glue or could that be used?
@GrandmaSezSo9 ай бұрын
I've used PVA glue and decoupage mod podge over beaks and nails. It works but there is no shaping it. Wool has to be veery well felted before using.

Maybe for buffing you might try nylon stockings. Party Lite company that sells candles shared the idea of nylon hose for cleaning dust off candles, smoothing nicks and buffing candles to a shine. This might work to buff the swax to a nice shine.
@craft-o-matic3992 жыл бұрын
Learned that from my Mom back in the 60's. She used it to smooth and add back a little sheen to wax candles that had been in storage for a while.

What is the difference in powerpol and powerwax? Benefits/uses.
@SarafinaFiberArtHowTo9 ай бұрын
Great question. Powertex is a fabric stiffener providing rigidity to the craft, Sara used it to make egg shells for example. Powerwax (applied after felting) remains pliable even after drying, creating a smooth look; an example would be bat wings or the nose of a cow.
@PetroicaRodinogaster2648 жыл бұрын
Does the Swax contain any animal products. I would like some but as I live in Australia and we have stiff rules for bringing animal products or anything that could contain material that would be environmentally hazardous. I cannot quite get the name of the white liquid you use, ( frim your accent ) but is it like PVC glue or even ModPodge? I love your work and you are very generous with your tutorial. I find feet etc. of all kinds are my achillies heel. I really want to master these. I thought it was just me when I found bees wax was flakey. Glad to hear you agree.
@PetroicaRodinogaster2648 жыл бұрын
I realised I may be able to workout the name of the white hardener by going to your website and I did. Paverpole. I could get the pole part but O thought you were saying power pole!

Is swax still tacky when on a finished product, as in: will it rub off, collect dust, or stick to furniture? Also, is the wool wrapped wire still pliable with cool swax on it, without cracking the swax?
@JanColdwater8 жыл бұрын
I have to ask... Have you ever wet felted/needle felted with vegan fibers? Have you ever used polyester fiber fills in place of core? I see there are more and more ppl are interested in animal free products.
@JanColdwater8 жыл бұрын
+Sara Renzulli Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I was looking into "Cruelty Free" wool, as you mentioned. Sources that act responsibly to the animals. Thank you so much for sharing that bit of information about the chain effect industry has on the environment as well, also harming the animals, including us humans. I had been shortsighted in that regard. Learning so much from watching your videos, I can't wait to order something from you that I won't feel too intimidated to do. Maybe one of your 2D Wool Paintings! Everything is so beautiful it is hard to choose!

poly fill fiber messes with the air we breathe .while its being processed. I raised sheep and One thing I do know is that they are happy happy campers after a sheering.Their not killed as well as we are not when we shave our legs ,arm pits or our heads
@Abby-v5l1y5 ай бұрын
@suzannewl859 I agree, sheep need shearing, why people think we should bin the wool and fill the environment with microplastics to 'save the sheep' I have no idea. Ok, some sheep are sheared roughly in some places, which I don't agree with, however there are plenty of people with hobby flocks of sheep who process their own wool and sell it. This is what I buy from local sellers.
