Your timing is such a gift! My sister asked for a black swan and I desperately needed to know how to create it's lovely plumage. So, thank you.

I am totally excited. I need to make some very small feathers, like the tiny one you showed in the start. I have been procrastinating because it all seemed impossible. But now I am going to get started and practice. One thing I guess I need if the feathers are to be tiny is a comb with much closer teeth, I have one. I also have a hair cutting kit and a metal ruler...So I think I am set. As I will use very very thin wire, I think some tweezers for holding while twisting will work for me too. The only thing I don't have is the board to hold the comb...but I can improvise. I am overseas and the exchange rate is prohibitive for me to buy from you but I do thank you for this video.

I wonder if you considered using the iridescent or metallic powders (i.e. PearlEx) for coloring the feathers? As soon as I saw the rooster, I thought of using those powders for coloring humming birds, peacocks and other fancy feathers.

@carolynadams22643 жыл бұрын
Hi Sara, this is such a wonderful video. I'm wondering what happens with the fiber in the comb that's under the ruler, do you use that as well in the feather; in other words, work from one side of the comb to the other side? Also, is the iron hot with steam?
@SarafinaFiberArtHowTo3 жыл бұрын
You can use all of the fiber that is laid out, yes. Iron generally without steam, but you could experiment!

What a great tool! Is there something you could add to the tool so you wouldn't have to use a ruler? Maybe add a hinged weight onto it? What are the other slots for? Does this mean you will be adding smaller combs to the set, to make smaller feathers?
@SarafinaFiberArtHowTo3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The other slots are for the scissors as you cut, kind of like a fabric cutting table.

I don't have an ironing board as don't like to iron anything lols could I just use a roller back and forth to flatten it?

You want something with heat to really flatten and shine it.
