Great explanation. I use Nova often for de-essing and in the master mix, but never quite got the result I wanted. This gives more detail and is working better for my vocals already. Many thanks!

Thanks for this I tend to have my Q value a lot higher usually around 2 just because I don't want it lowering too much high end just the s frequency which is a cutting through too much.

Hello Sofia and Thomas. Your tutorials are simple, precise and very consistent. In fact, you always get to the point, and avoid drowning us in details, which too often are a sneaky way for other trainers/web sellers to confuse us and make us a little dependent on their knowledge..... So why don't you offer lessons or even case studies online ??? @@@ paid of course to compensate for your educational work....In fact, in a few weeks, I have really become a loyal fan of your tone, your thoughts, your hearing sensitivity and also your open and tolerant mind. Thank you for reading my missive translated by Google of course...hahahaha.

Hi Jacques, glad to hear that you like our videos! 🙂 We did offer a course during covid and a while after. It was actually quite appreciated but at the moment we don’t have time available outside of the studio work. We do have a new really good resource in our store, a PDF about peak limiting, feel free to check it out! Link in the description. /Thomas

Cool! Thank you very much. I know that a de-esser is a good tool but I think we should avoid to make words like kiss sound kiph, or sounds sound phoundph, or this sound thiph. Like with sculptures, mostly use the de-essing to destroy the sound material, not to esculpe it. :-)) So, I agree with you.

Thank you for your input! 👌Yes, we don’t want to give a lisp to somebody who doesn’t have it. Also there are a lot of great artists who have a natural lisp and then that’s part of the sound. One of my favourite artists has a natural lisp ☀️ overall I have to say that getting mixes with unintentional lisping does not happen so often in our mastering company. We do have extremely competent clients I have to say 😊 it has happened though and then that’s a bit unfortunate. /Sofia

When de-essing is it best to have the 'EQ Gain' button on, off, or does it not matter? Thanks!

I would leave it off, but it won't make much difference in this case. /Thomas
