Can the electronics be defeated by a shock from a taser, large capacitor, or other source? Is it waterproof?

I've been trying to use it on the back disc which is pretty thick so it partially pushes the ball in then the alarm goes off. Is that meant to happen? I really prefer to have it on the back.

Yes. The alarm will be enabled as the ball is pushed in some amount. You can try this with your fingers when the lock is closed. If the ball position changes after locking, it will trigger the alarm. If you lock the lock too slowly and it moves after you hear the "beep" which indicates the alarm being on, that will set the alarm off. If you think you are properly using the lock, and the alarm goes off when the ball is pushed in, then the alarm unit may be faulty. You can get them as spare.
