ED has said they'll work on it but right now we don't have the real main impact and effect of the Shrike- the threat of it *existing* in a theatre forcing SAM operators to change their behaviour and radiate *a lot* less, thereby increasing overall survivability rates. Previously SAM operators were free to be 'on the air' as much as they wanted with little downside leaving them free to get the most out of their radar sets and allowing them the best chance possible of tracking a target and guiding a missile to them. With the development of ARMs like the Shrike the operators now had no choice but to be careful when and how they would choose to go on the air for fear of being detected and having an ARM lobbed at them. They don't need to have a 100% success rate to be such a big threat they can't be ignored, since one Shrike can disable the operational use of the site leaving it vulnerable to attack, and if they *do* operate continuously the chance the Shrike works properly and hits them is way bigger. When/if they do get updated with more complex behaviour it will be both more difficult to get a hit with a Shrike but also more safe overall from any one site since they cannot just blindly radiate whenever they see a threat

There is a mod called Skynet that turns off radars when they are being fired upon

I'd highly recommend you look into the Skynet mod. It makes SAM sites much more intelligent compared to the base game. SAMs with this mod will not emit constantly and will only turn on their radar once you are in range as detected by early warning radars. They will also shut down their radar if they detect a ARM in the air. This is the point of the AGM-45 to suppress SAM sites, not destroy them. If they shut down their radar they wont be able to shoot at you or the incoming raid behind your suppression mission

It'll definitely be nice if they can make the actual radar dish itself more delicate, to better represent the way the missiles would work in real life. It's also going to be great when they add something like what Skynet does, so you can just easily throw SAM sites into the mission editor without the scripting backend. I imagine these are the kinds of changes that are going to come as they continue to develop the Dynamic Campaign engine, since you almost have to have it for the SAM/AAA systems to not cripple the computer by all being active at once, but also to make the SEAD/DEAD missions more fun and challenging.

I'm disappointed Heatblur didn't include the AGM-78 Standard ARM along with the Shrike. The F-4E could use the Standard ARM, though it was rare cause it was an expensive missile and thus only given to units specifically for wild weasels. Still.

“Mk” is pronounced “Mark” because it’s the abbreviation for Mark. It’s also faster to say “Mark” than it is to say “emm-kay”. Go forth and do great things.

I can't seem to get any tone on SA-19s with MK 23 or 50 guidance. Seems like 24.5 will track without tone.

Hello. I dont understand why i cant find the SA6 TR with the MK25 but with the MK49 its fine. But in your spreadsheet it shows that with the MK25 it is possible to attack the SA6? Do i something wrong with the MK25 seaker or is the info in your spreadsheet not right?

The Mk25 seeker can track the SA-6 but it has no tone. That's a bug presumably

Effective range is approximately 6-7 miles. The Mk50 does work for the SA-15 and SA-10

Yes. You can do this through the re-arm/refuel menu on the ground. Just click the little yellow triangle to the top left of the shrike missile icon

just tested this. apparently you can only fire one at a time, the previously fired will self destruct if you ripple a second one. interesting.

I believe its for when you use the AGM-45 with the WRCS panel. Quite advanced stuff in comparison but I can't imagine it being that useful in DCS.

Can the Mk50 Seeker be used against SA-6 and SA-11?

The Mk50 can't see either. For an SA-6, you'd want the Mk49 seeker. There is no seeker that works for the SA-11 from what I can tell

The Shrike seekers are a bit bugged at the moment so it could be two things, either you have the wrong seeker for the type of radar you're shooting at, or the seeker does actually have a lock on the radar but it doesn't give a tone. If your case is the latter then you can still fire your shrikes and they will guide

Was trying for theSA-2, fan songs, initially with the e band, mk24 mod 5 and mod 34, (tried narrow and broad) I got no tone at all, shrike’s wouldn’t even fire. Then tried the mk 37 mod 0, got tone but they didn’t track.

In theory yes, as long as the Shrike seeker is looking for guidance bands that Blufor SAMs use then they should guide in them. 😊

That is for the WRCS mode of shrike delivery. I'll have a video on that after the next DCS update when the shrikes are hopefully fixed

@@Nick-sm6hx You do yes. This is very old technology compared to the AGM-88C, so you need to know what SAM site you're going to fire the shrikes at and equip the correct seekers for it on the ground.
