I've been a fan of your tutorials since Toon Boom Studio 8. Keep them coming. Though it's not Harmony specific, any tips on the creation and execution of mouth shapes for optimal phoneme believability would be helpful. I find the Toon Boom examples a little stilted.

How do I change the volume of the sound? When I open layer properties, I can change things but the apply button doesn't work, so it resets. Even changing volume outside of Harmony doesn't work.

Does your mouth layer have to be a symbol in order for the lip-sync to work?

Hey Tony I have a huge problem I was hoping you could help me with on essentials. I have my character all rigged up but when I move forward in the timeline view he disappears? Meaning that I have to keep copy pasting my character back into the picture in order to aniimate and I know this can't be the way to do it! Any help would be more than appreciated! +kyleraynerson13 OK, I'm going to try & guess here, without a screen shot: 1. Select the last frame of your character's layer in your scene 2. Is the Stage/Camera View empty? If so, Press F5 to extend the exposure of your character Hope that helps :)

You need to record one voice track at a time and that way you can move the mouths to the right character.

I like the fact that Toon Boom Harmony Premium has auto-lip sync function, but it's as good as an auto time stamp, it's not smart enough to detect actual phonetics. So, we'd have to manually set each timestamp to the correct mouth shape for each pronunciation. Which is a pain in the ass.

Wow!, thanks... I'm used to work on Adobe Flash, but I think it's time to move on... this will save me a lot of time. Do you recommend the Harmony Essential or Advanced? Are they very different or not? I have to start a project soon, I'm working on the character development (CutOut animation), and I'm thinking on buying Harmony essentials because of the rigging tool and now that I know of the Auto Lip Sync, makes me so happy, but I don't know a lot of difference between this 2 editions. The other thing is that I'm planning on migrate from Flash to Harmony working for this project and do not know if that's to risky. Hope you can advice me! Have a nice day. :D

just chiming in, don't know if you already made a purchase, Harmony advanced has way better drawing tools than essentials and better rendering, essentials costs $375 and advanced costs $975, premium their top software costs $2000, you can also use subscriptions if you like, you can import some Flash files like SWF files to Harmony to save some time or redo all the work in Harmony, but Harmony is easier to use than Flash once you learn the software

Awesome tutorials! Wonderful job:) I just started using Toon Boom Harmony Premium (currently trying out the free trial to get a feel for the program before I buy) and your vids are a life saver. Skipperwing told me about your vids, and they've really helped me make a decision on whether or not to switch from Flash! One question: Is it possible to import Flash Artwork into Toon Boom Harmony? +kyleraynerson13 nope, not copy & paste, just extend the exposure on all frames. Select the last frame of your scene, press F5 to extend the character's exposure to all the frames in the scene.
