How to use The Backbone's TouchSync | Genshin + Android + Controller Workaround! Firmware Update

Genshin Impact... on an Android...with a controller? Whaaaat?!?!
We all know that Genshin Impact does not have controller support for Android devices, but thanks to The Backbone's latest firmware update, the TouchSync feature lets you play games like Genshin with a controller! This feature just came out, so I'm not quite sure what other games that TouchSync does this for since I only really play Genshin...I'm assuming it's just for the really popular games??

Hey guys, an update on touchsync. It seems recently they made it so that YOU HAVE TO HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION in order to use touchsync. At the time I uploaded this video, it didnt need subscription to backbone+ but now it does. Also, my square button mapping is off so it doesnt work on mine. I tried contacting backbone several times, via twitter, via reddit, via their useless contact/support website, via the customer service option on the backbone app...and not a single response in months. Im over the backbone and over the company. The only contact i was able to get was an automated warranty return. So, if you haven't bought one yet...i would suggest anything BUT backbone. I might make another video about it out of spite lol.

@@Xdeathslinger if you have the subscription you will need to activate it and add the permissions required in the backbone settings. have you enabled it? if you have, you also need to press the button to activate it in game.

I couldn't get it to work correctly. :/ It kept defaulting to PUBG mapping. however, I just wanted to test it out. I mostly use Mantis and it works fine. Lets you map yourself also.

I think it only has mapping for some games. Did you start the game from the launcher? Also, make sure to restart your phone after updating the firmware. for me it didn't work until I restarted my phone.

Was so confused since I couldn't find this feature in settings while up to date. Activated the free 30 days subscription and it appeared. So looks like you need to be subbed to access tjis feature.

Hi guys, I just saw this ad that Backbone posted...I think it's safe to use if a big Genshin creator like Sevy was able to do a video about it. Also, it mentions it's still in Beta so there's a possibility it might not be available for all Android devices...yet. It also looks like they're still working on improving it and adding it for more games. I've been trying to find support / info on Backbone's website but they don't mention anything about touchsync on it...so weird. I'll try get back to your questions as soon as I can. Someone mentioned that touchsync became available after signing up for the 30 day subscription...so maybe they made it a feature for backbone subscribers? Anyway, lmk if that made it work for you. Can you hide or decrease the button map opacity? Also is that mean it can emulate touch areas for any controller unsupported games? Like ex astris, reverse 1999 etc

yes you can change the opacity in the backbone app settings. It currently is only supported for certain games...it's technically still in beta so they'll be adding more. Currently the only games compatible with touchsync are Free Fire, Free Fire Max, Genshin, Honkai Star Rail, and PUBG .

@2828Alexander I've been asking that too...they already have mapped buttons why can't we customize them. I had to return mine because my mapped buttons suddenly were off and they didn't work when I pressed the buttons on the controller...and there's no way to remap them. So dumb. I made this video because I was excited about the feature..which worked for a bit...and then the mapping was way off after an update. I tried contacting customer service about it months ago and still no answer. So now I'm just out here in the comments telling people maybe not buy it. Also, it requires the backbone + subscription to use touchsync

I did the exact same, but at the time of filming this it wasn't required for backbone subscription. They recently made it so that you have to have a subscription. I guess it's cuz the normal subscription isn't really worth it so they needed to put the feature in it to make them pay for the subscription. it's lame.

what do you mean? do you see the little icon on the screen that you press to open the menu? also, you have to allow permissions for the touchscreen overlay in order for it to appear.

I'm a little confused. I have the xbox layout backbone and am using it with android. None of the buttons on the backbone correlate to the touch controls on the tablet. There is no laft joysosupport at all. It just moves the camera.

I would try calibrating the buttons in the backbone app settings. If that doesn't work you should reinstall the backbone. You probably didn't calibrate it correctly or you haven't enabled certain permissions during setup.

Unfortunately genshin does not have controller support for android. Backbone's Touchsync feature does work for Genshin, however it is behind a paywall (backbone plus subscription)...it does have some caveats...it appears that the mapping is incorrect on some phones. For example, I have a samsung 24+ ultra...and my square button is way off so nothing happens when i press the square button. However, it's just the square button...so if i need to pick things up or open doors...i just tap the screen. I've messaged support and all they did was send me a new one...and the mapping is still off. 😫

I'd love to get myself one of these but am nervous about jeopardizing my Genshin account. Do you happen to know if the Backbone touchsync is actually allowed by Genshin or if it is more of a "use at your own risk" type of thing?

I tried contacting customer support regarding this and they haven't responded. However, I have seen a recent video of big streamers that have sponsored videos where they explain the touch synch feature and use Genshin in their video...so I'm assuming yes it is safe to use. For example, Sevy recently released a video and it was sponsored by Backbone and she showed how to use it with Genshin

Thanks! I have also tried to reach out to backbone customer service but have not received a reply either. I would hope they wouldn't promote using their product if it was a risk to user's accounts. It's crazy that Genshin hasn't added controller support for android so I was very excited to see this as a possible option! This is very disappointing... I just went from apple using the 1st Gen Backbone PS edition for genshin impact to android 2nd gen backbone and it's like taking a huge step back. All the steps you have to do to use this controller on android, never had that issue with Apple. This is very disappointing that I cannot change from touch screen to controller within Genshin like I did on the iphone. I will be returning the backbone I just bought. And I'm not paying a subscription just to use a controller on a free to plat game.

yea it sucks that it is behind a paywall. Also, just know that Genshin does not have controller support for Android devices. So if you get a different controller, you will run into the same thing...unless it's a controller that has touch screen remapping.

@MoeJae86 same...but it seems they have no desire to add much to the game. They already make tons of money the way the game is currently...and they have honkai star rail to put more of their efforts on. The game has been out for like 4 years now....it would have had controller support by now. Also, the only quality of life things Genshin got recently were just stuff that Honkai Star Rail had. And only because players were complaining that Genshin didn't have these things.

I couldn't get it to work. Android 12, and backbone 1.18. Activated touch synch and the wheel works to select exploration, but the character doesnt work.

you need to make sure that it is enabled in settings. you also need to make sure that the permissions for touch synch overlay is enabled. and I also found out recently that you will need to have backbone plus subscription to use touch synch. I got it long before when it was in beta...so I'm guessing that is why it works for me without a subscription Maybe they might remove it when I update the firmware.

if you are playing Genshin on iPhone you don't need touchsync because genshin already has controller support for iPhones. I am not sure if there is touchsync on iPhone app yet...but make sure you've updated to the latest firmware.

so, is there no way to remap the buttons? i hate attack being the B button. neuvillette needs to charged attack and aim with the right thumbstick. but unlike bow characters, he cant enter "charged attack mode". also my X button is set up for the interact location but it is too high, so i cant use it unless looting multiple items. it misses when trying to click dialog or things like pick up, unlock, etc. i bought this today and im really disappointed.

lol what? No, it doesn't require a pc or console. You use it to play games on your phone. You CAN use it to PS remote play, and you can also hook it up via cable to play on your pc/tablet as a regular controller.

I'm confused because when I got it, I did not have subscription. They might have changed it recently that touchsync is a feature that comes with subscription. I did see that in the Google Play store reviews, backbone had responded to some people's reviews saying that it was a feature that comes with subscription only. I dunno, I haven't been using it since my square button doesn't line up. Hopefully they come out with an update to fix it.

yes it is. make sure it is updated to latest firmware. Backbone released a thing saying that it is still in beta so it might not be available for all phones and the touch synch stuff works for only certain games

@@Asha-llino I've tried Mantis, but it takes a lot to set up...and it wasnt very responsive. There was a delay when trying to switch characters and sometimes if you click too fast it wont recognize the input.

@katygamer3056 go to the android store and check if there's an update. also, there should be a touch synch option in settings > controller. from there you need to enable permissions for the touchsync overlay. also, sometimes you need to restart your phone.
