Sounds like your using a wirless headset this is a issue I recently rans into as well need to be a wired headset.

Are you having any issues with keyboard mapping not working with the 2.4g wireless connection? It seems the keybaord mapping only works when I use it wired. I reset/updgrade within the app over and over and it has not resolved this issue. Just wondering if this is only happening to me

I THINK the keyboard mapping only works in xinput mode, not Switch mode , so that may be your issue. I believe this because I can only get it to connect to the Steam Deck in Switch Pro mode via the dongle, and key maps don't work.

So it works with the adapter from brooks, but xbox said they stopped this, so I can say it will work for you.
