I went through like 3 videos trying to understand it. Finally the most clear explanation. Thank you.

This was like the most straightforward and direct video over on Ableton's compression. Thank you for this. I can now apply this to other compressors I have with confidence. It doesn't need to be a 55 minute video! You rock, sir!

This is the most helpful tutorial I've found so far. Too many people just hand-wave what settings like "release" do without demonstrating them clearly.

Can you (or should you) compress MIDI tracks? I don't have a real bass guitar so I'm using a virtual instrument. I went ahead and added a compressor to my bass and a different compressor to the drums (both MIDI tracks) and after some manipulation it actually sounds amazing! I like it, and I know that's what matters most, but my question is - is it normal or acceptable to do this?
@timisgrindgames46634 жыл бұрын
sure! It doesn't make a difference if you have an audio or midi track

So when you record vocals, you just track it dry and use the compression later after the vocals is tracked? It always bothers me when I record the vox, , in the recorded track (unedited track), I can hear the slightest breathing, clothes rubbing, its driving me nuts!
@hartley96724 жыл бұрын
For that you need a gate not a compressor. I personally use Brusfri. It's amazing simple and works perfectly.

always use a vocal chain while tracking/recording - mayb autotune, noise gate, eq, compressor, de-esser, etc. Because u want the your vocals to sound as good as possible to fit your mix. When putting an fx chain on your vocals, ur not changing the audio signal itself - ur just changing how the audio sounds thru ur monitors.
