Nica P you can play it as stormtrooper or as rebel, it doesn't matter. It is the starter gun only in DELUXE EDITION: check if you bought the right edition

It's no longer powerful after the January patch. For any close-mid range engagement I personally believe that, DH-17 or SE14-C would be an ideal blaster to use than the nerfed DL-44.
