I got a bike cheap on CL, the owner blew his 2nd motor in 6 yrs and was over it, the Grin motor, controller, PAS, throttle, brakes, display work great and I saved a ton of money. So if you can find a bike like that can have fun building it and save. Grin was great about helping me, a complete newbie, excellent customer service, and the motor has a temp sensor which the controller monitors, and it reduces power before the motor overheats, maybe other motor/controller setups do that, but I didn't see any in my research, so I couldn't be happier with my bike.

@@mscir I purchased the Luna cycle Galaxy paint bike only last May. For 1,400 it was the best bike for the components I could find. I plan on getting the Luna bbshd and the 72 volt battery and then I'll get grins Phase runner and Egg rider and I should be all set. By springtime I'll be enjoying the Hiawatha National Forest in style.

Great tutorial sir, but I have a question and hope to assist me with .. My e bike rims are 26"x4.0" 84mm wide and the previous spokes Dia for the rear rim was 10G/ 215mm length. Planning to replace the rims with the same previous rim size but with different model and here is my question will I be able to use 12G/215mm spokes instead of the 10G ? Thanks in advance
@GrinTechnologies2 жыл бұрын
10g is an almost unheard of size for a bicycle wheel. If your motor flange has holes drilled out for 10 gauge spokes, then there is a good chance you will need washers on the the spoke heads if you use 12 gauge spokes instead.

I'm still poking around but I'll comment here and see if you have any ideas. I'm trying to convert my Schwinn Tourist Hybrid bike into an e-bike (it's already a great commuter bike!) with a BAFANG 500w rear hub conversion kit. I like the look of the bike as it is, and I'm toying with the idea of keeping the current rear wheel instead of the one that comes with the kit. The rear hub motor with the kit is the BAFANG G020, and I have 700c wheels... and all the spokes are in pairs around the wheel. The hub appears to have evenly spaced holes. Is that going to mess things up terribly? And could you add the specs for the G020 to the calculator? I'm sure it's a common one these days. Thanks for the info, tool, and helpful video!

You're asking if single cross is fine? It's not clear what you mean by "all the spokes are in pairs around the wheel". WIth smaller geared motors like this and a large 700c rim, both single cross and double cross work fine.

My question is can you supply a 10 gauge spoke for a qs273 inside a 19” moto rim. The spokes I have got from previous vendors are of poor quality. I’m after good quality spokes as this needs to hold over 50hp.
@GrinTechnologies Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no we only do 13 and 14 gauge spokes and only supply parts for bicycle rims, not motorcycle rims. You should contact a motorcycle parts supplier for that.
@completesalvation17552 жыл бұрын
Very nice work, interesting and valuable information since rebuilding a hub motor rim is not the same as rebuilding a standard bike rim. I hope to use the information to change my motor from a standard rim to fit a fat bike tire.
@GrinTechnologies2 жыл бұрын
As long as the spoke holes match on rim and motor you're good to swap!... With appropriate spoke length of course ;p

my ebike with a bafang G060 fat motor, 20 inch fat wheel, is radial laced with evenly spaced spoke holes (not paired) but with heavy 11 gauge spokes. Not good?
@GrinTechnologies2 жыл бұрын
In 20" rims the radial lacing will often hold up OK, but if you find after riding the bike a lot that the spokes gett loose and the nipples needing constant tightening then we'd suggest relacing with a single cross pattern.

Hello! Could you tell me a nice motor for pull 30-40kg continuously during 5 min at speed of 25km/h? It's for a proyect. Thanks so much!
@GrinTechnologies2 жыл бұрын
What is the diameter of wheel? The smaller you can have for the wheel size the easier it will be to have this pulled off by a hub motor. The RH212 with statorade in a 20" wheel size is getting close: ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html?blue=Lbs&motor=9C212_7.5T_SA&cont=cust_50_100_0.01_V&grade=15.5&hp=0&wheel=20i&mass=150&batt=B5220_GA But normally we'd be suggesting running 2 motors for this kind of thrust level.

hello 🖖 tell me the front hub or hub can be measured with this calculator? hub + moto rim 1.60-19’’

It can calculate both front or rear indeed.

Excellent tool but... I have a front hub with the right flange with a different diameter than the left flange. It would be a nice update to take in consideration this other parameter ;)
@GrinTechnologies3 жыл бұрын
We've got one of those hubs in our shop too (this one here www.aikema.com.cn/en/product/product-45-361.html). Is that the same model you have? It's quite doable as a future update but at least in the meantime it's easy to just run the calculation twice.
