I was having a relaxing morning at home just now and thought “hey, why don’t I check my tank’s nitrate level with my new Hanna Nitrate checker.” I then opened up the box, then opened up the instruction booklet and thought “it will probably be less of a hassle to just scrub algae clean off of each rock in my tank than to do this test.”

I am a fan of Hanna checkers and own 4. I like them for their convenience and ease of use. The testing process of this checker however is the opposite of that. I am stunned that you would produce a checker that is so misaligned with your brand position. I was extremely excited when I heard about this product and even more let down when I watched the videos on its use. I, and so many more Hanna users, expected better from you.

Hi Hanna. This test is more complicated than previous ones but for me the extra complication is worth it for the confidence level I get from the output. After many years I am now confident in my Nitrate levels.However as mentioned in other posts below it is inexcusable that the video instructions are wrong! It's now end Dec 2020 and the video was first posted end Sep 2020 and many other have commented to the fact that the in the video there is no mention of adding the sample to test! In your video you suggest you start with 5ml of Reagent A and draw off 10ml of test sample which is obviously impossible. Please fix this video ASP so that others can correctly use and get the benefit of your test kit.
@garrycole91874 жыл бұрын
People are so overreacting, yes it takes 8 minutes for the actual clock to run down. In the mean time do an alkalinity test or a calcium test. I do this all the time. I don't just check one test at a time, sitting around. Right now I am doing the nyos nitrate test and during the 5 minutes wait, I do my hanna phosphate test. Organize and you can do all your test quickly.
@kevinchiara20364 жыл бұрын
the Red Sea test takes like 10 minutes and has three steps and it is so hard to read the result because the shade of pink. I don't think this is that complicated. Amazing for people that are colorblind as well!

I think this is very well done to give us a digital nitrate measurement. In Short (Take water sample, Put Liquid Reagent A in, Put Powder Reagent B in. Filter with syringe, put in meter, remove 8 minutes later and add another powder. Done) To measure 5-50 here's the dilution. In Short (Put sample in, add freshly mixed saltwater, Put 7 ml of mix in vial and do the normal test) BOOM!
@bgoldb214 жыл бұрын
SaltwaterAquarium that explanation is oversimplified. This process is materially slower than that of other nitrate test kits. Adding a sample to a vial and then removing the sample and then adding it back into the vial is cumbersome at best. I realize you are in the business of selling this product and therefore not surprised by a lack of objectivity but saying nothing would be a better approach on this specific product than damaging your credibility and promoting an inferior product from an otherwise excellent company.
@Saltwateraquariumdotcom4 жыл бұрын
@@bgoldb21 Yea maybe it's an oversimplification. I would love for the test to be add a reagent, hit a button and boom you have a number. But the reality is this is the first digital test on the market for nitrate and I don't think having a few steps is a big deal. I think maybe Hanna spoiled us with how easy to use some of their checkers are. There are definitely some tests out there that are harder to complete successfully then this.

The instructions in this video is different than the paper included instructions with the checker. Also, my checker did not include the needle for the syringe.

Sam Malone why do you care about my comment? I care because I am a hobbyist who loves Hanna products and I hope they see my feedback as motivation (as small as it may be) to continue working on this and produce a better nitrate checker. And when companies like @SaltwaterAquarium post comments that misrepresent a product, the consumer ultimately loses.

I was really excited about this product but it turns out to be such a disappointment. Way too many steps compared to other Nitrate test kits and this only reads 0-5 ppm without even more steps to dilute the sample. I'll be sticking to my current nitrate kit until they update the product and make it much simpler such as their Alkalinity and ULR Phosphate checkers. Also listen to your users, they want tablet form reagent rather than trying to deal with getting all of the powder out of the cracks of the packaging.
@jennifershaffor96754 жыл бұрын
Yes, either a tablet form or a jar with a measuring spoon would even be ideal. I'm sick of the pouches.

@salvatorepalazzolo30654 жыл бұрын
This is insane, and totally missed the mark. Once people watch this, they will just buy another Nyos Kit. Complete fail, they aligned with Red Sea as the test times, and colors of reagents look similar. The ease of checkers are what makes them attractive. Wholesalers should be let down.
@johnmy29854 жыл бұрын
I would like to know when you say the first step "Using the 10 ml syringe, measure exactly 7 ml of sample into the large mixing vial" I have really always liked Hanna's tests and I have all of them, I did the preorder before the sale started and I already have it a few days ago. But I have been very disappointed so far. As the plastic tip of the 5 ml syringe also falls off, it does not hold because the hole is wider, and the metal tip cover was not in the package either, although it seems that this cover is important. What a disappointment.
