I find the duality of the spells quite interesting. It could work with nurgle as well, who could have damaging and healing.

The unspotable might be good on ranged units to hide them while they focus fire so they don't get cavalry and whatnot going for them.

ranged units lose all stalk upon firing, only units with snipe are able to retain it. The unspottable in the video didnt actually activate either so looks like its bugged anyways

@@Louiseholm Unspottable =/= stalk, so unspottable actually does nothing to non-stalking units outside of forests. It's 100% meant to be used with the akshina ambushers for the reasons that the original comment talked about as Ostankya has a technology that gives them snipe

The vengance of spirits was tested by Human Boy Yes Yes and he found that its waaay closer to Traitor Kin than to what the spell is supposed to do. Aka, its better against single entities than units with multiple models. The theory is that the unit card is reversed

Vengeance of spirits absolutely chunks single entities. Around 1000 damage on each. Using it on factions like Skaven, DE, and vamps that like to field a lot of strong heroes is almost op. Especially if you have a few hags that can cast it in a row.

Vengeance of Spirits does 8% less damage with double the casting range than Traitor-Kin overcast for 33% less mana. If you hit 3 units (even single entities) you're dealing 133% more damage per mana with double the range compared to Spirit Leech (with Life Leeching). Even if you only hit 2 units, you're almost doing as much damage per mana as Fate of Bjuna (with Life Leeching) with double the casting range and without the 25 model restriction.

The problem with "spread range" as a concept overall is a problem that's been true of all area of effect buffs and debuffs, and that's the fact that a unit is only considered in range when the banner floating above their head is within range. So two units can be lined up right next to eachother, practically touching, but because the banners on the units are still 5-10m apart a spell could effect one and not the other.

Good video but bad advice on Vengeance of Spirits : the tooltip is bad, the spell is better on single entities like Traitor Kin or Final Transmutation, and don't do much against infantry 👍

The Forbidden Fen friendly buff is for counter play. In high tier play, not knowing the position of 4 units for 55 meters is pretty big. Is the cavalry counter charging? When are the archers in range? I first saw pikemen in front of the streltsi did they move to the back? There are very common moments in battles where a couple seconds delay changes a good decision to a bad decision. In addition, you can always replen vigor for the army line or if things became a blob or if you're being out maneuvered. It's a very versatile spell. Yes, you're paying for versatility. Silencing is very useful but it's very situation dependent. Is Valkia using invulnerability because she's in a sticky situation? Have you locked down a lord with net, so they want to pop the Vlad ring for +60% damage resistance. Armies that greatly improve on the charge augmented by unit abilities such as the beastmen and their hero minotaur ect...

The rampage is the reason you would cast the spell. Rampage is insanely good, you can use it on a skirmish unit with some heavy cavalry nearby and then 15s is more than enough time to completly crush that unit.

I wouldn’t say Rampage is a non-factor given the changes to it. If anything it works more like a net trapping the unit in combat until the spell ends.

The spell change where it’s a debuff or buff depending on overcast is actually a really cool concept even if some of the spells could use some quality of life tweaks.

Combining slowdown effects is a fun idea, I should try it. To me the overcast Forbidden Fens feels like it would be a useful way to shield charging units from missile file, although I'd probably increase its effect radius a bit. Curse of the Old Witch + Witchbrew seems like a great way to turn a high value target into a vulnerable pincushion while dealing extra damage to it due to the armor reduction. I get the feeling that the Curse's spread effect is meant more to be an incidental bonus than a core part of the value of the spell. That Cauldron vortex animation is such a joy.

My guess about why "Curse of the ancient witch" doesn't spread has to do with an issue about how the spreading range is determined. Considering it works when you blob them up, and what you showed in the first footage (with the SE behind catching it), I think the spell treats THE CENTER of the unit to determine if it's in range or not. Which means that Infantry in line formation will never get it spread when side-by-side, as the spreading range seems to be quite short

Yes. Just like every single aura affect, it is determined by the center of the unit.

I think the fens is meant to be used as a way to help your own units run away from units chasing them. Like if you have a broken unit or just an injured unit you want out of trouble, you pop it down on them and it allows to run away from the other units that’s near them/buff up your injured/routing unit. Probably best for like infantry units. So I think that’s what it’s meant to be for(the overcast buff version).

While not the way they likely intended it, you could use the blessing of ancient on a fast wolf-like unit and have it run through your line to spread it most efficiently.

That first spell looks like it has great utility for moving large units through trees and improving your cavalry charges up hill. Good utility potential. Vengeance of Spirits does a ton of damage to single entities by the way, and the silence does not affect passive abilities, only activatable. The Witch Brew healing protecting you against contact effects is actually quite strong, prevents fire from reducing salkyak heals, against combat debuffs like charmed, armor sundering, poison wind damage, etc. Oh, and the spread mechanic is pretty janky, though you could use single entity units to work as connectors for it. Don't recommend putting it down on the middle most units though, since a unit can only spread once, you have a chance to only spread half the units without significant shuffling around.

Forbidden fens overcast can be useful for flanking or rear attacks if you can pin down the enemy frontline with infantry.

the overcast on forbidden fens if i had to guess is for a tactical retreat, if you have some ranged units getting attacked the speed and hide might help them get away....other than that i really have to idea unless your just hiding ranged/artillery units on a hill.

If the rampage spell lasted for 40 seconds on enemies, it would basically invalidate ever bringing an expensive or melee lord into Kislev in pvp setting

The woods buff is to ambush people, and have a speed buff while exiting the forest.

The spread thing was because the spread range is 30, and it first spreaded to the lord but the lord wasnt within 30 meters of another unit that didnt have the effect already, so it stopped at the lord. And for units i think the centre of a unit (or roughly where the banner is) needs to be within 30 meters of the center of the other unit. Thats why it works a bit weird like that

one way to get better use out of the blessing of the ancient witch could be to cast it on an SE and have them run through your firing line and spread it, ideally on the new druzhina so he can benefit from it as well

The silence spells sound incredibly interesting against Khorne army abilities, especially against the one that makes a unit unkillable for a short duration. Similarly, it may have some niche applications against factions that rely heavily on healing and leadership auras and abilities such as VC.

I think the issue with Maledictions of Madness is the rampage. If you go through the patchnotes, it becomes pretty clear that the devs are looking to cut down on Rampage time because it's not really a super fun mechanic to be up against. Thus, the duration is pretty short, but that in turn makes the effect kinda useless. Though I suspect they maybe just messed up the price as well. I'd probably get rid of that and maybe just throw in a melee defence penalty for good measure.

I don't get why we canrt get terrain modifier spells...like Lore of Ice has spell that creates a 30m long icewall for X seconds...

Does the silence spell stop active effects? Cause when some lords spam all of their abilities to turn into blenders it could be very strong to just drop the silence and laugh at the lord now just having everything on cooldown

The rampage part of the spell is actually pretty useful, the problem is that you are using it on a melee infantry that charging your line. Use it to lock a unit into an encounter with the Golden Knight and it become much more useful, as anything that approach the Golden Knight, with her totem equip, is silenced. Then with her weapon ability, she can also lock them in for an extra 20 second.

Rampage do not effect anything...what? Best tool to catch and kill anything you want with a debuff to defence, probably best spell in this lore for 16 winds

yeah, they might be failing to take the rampage rework into account CA was pretty clear in their blog post about this update, the rampage rework means that effects that give rampage are far more powerful than before so they were very careful with basically all abilities that inflicted it to make sure that they wouldn't be mega OP. if Rampage turns out to be less oppressive than CA thought then they could always buff the spell later, otherwise it's probably fine as it is

I suppose overcast Forbidden Fens would increase impact damage (not charge bonus, thats a fixed number), as that uses movement speed in its damage calc. So you could cast it on cavalry right before impact. Even then, it won't be amazing because impact damage is capped (at 70 iirc)

Imho it would've been better off as a set of spells in addtion to the hags regular magic, considering that it represents deals with Kislev's spirits and such rather than channeling the winds of magic

On another topic: help me out people: Is the new "Immune to Flanking" trade also negating the Entity Flanking Melee Defense malus? So the new Bastiladon would have 100% of its MD in combat, even when attacked from behind or the sides (in huge crowds)? Or is it "just" negating the Leadership Penalties?

Only thing I can figure fir the first spell about cloaking n speed boost is if it makes them undetectable and increases their ATTACK speed then it'd b good for ranged but if it's only movement speed then...yah useless

The sepell that removes armour and missile block chance is pretty strong I think, but overall after a campaign with Kislev, I would rather take a Shadow Hag to get Pit of Shades.

It's not low at all. If you use a sensible formation, you can easily hit 3 units with it. Or you just put it on your mounted caseter and run through your whole back line.

I highly disagree on rampage. You force an enemy lord to attack your army leading them into a gun swarm, combined with the armor debuff they get deleted.

A fair point and yeah didn't think about Lords. Although I would argue the AI will probably charge it's Lord into your gun swarm even without Rampage xD

@@Zerkovich That is true. I feel like people yell at the AI a lot, but the enemy is usually pretty smart against my missiles and spells on Hard mode. Very hard mode they act more ridiculous… I also think the Wtchbrew is decent. It is cast faster again and again than say Lifeblood and heals very unit it hits, so I think it’s good. I agree most useless one are the Stealth / Stealth boost in a circle as you mentioned, I assume it will be patched to follow the units.
