I have done my own highlights for years with a magicap. It is terrific, my highlights are even better than what I used to get at the salon. Lets you get right down to the scalp and product never bleeds through. I have been using the same cap for years and always dry and powder it after use. I would like to buy another one but can't find a clear one anywhere. Sally's no longer sells them and the ones online are blue or purple so you can't see through it to make sure you have pulled hair just right around your face.

That looks very pretty, I had my hair highlighted with that method a few years ago, the only part I didn't enjoy was getting my hair pulled through the little holes of the cap, I am very tender headed, but after it was all done, I was very very happy with the out come. I loved my hair. Sometimes we have to go through a little pain or discomfort to look good, am I right? :)

Same! I highlighted my own very long hair with a similar system and when I went to a professional salon for a cut a few weeks later, the stylist genuinely didn't believe I did it myself at first. The only downside is that it takes aaaages to pull through if you have long hair, but the result is stunning and easier than using foils on yourself. Another plus is that foils always take me a long time so I get worried about processing times. This way all the strands get dyed at the same time so they process evenly :)

You can get really good effects with these caps,but it does help to use them thoughtfully. 1 ) Consider making extra holes in it with your crochet hook,for instance at a parting or fringe (take care,maybe put an old cushion inside) 2) Get your customer to hold the cap down gently when pulling through and applying colour. 3) As the customer holds the cap gently down apply the (not too runny ) colour to the ends and lengths first and comb it gently down to the roots. 4)After the customer has let go of the cap,DO NOT PRESS DOWN ,but gently tease the temple hair through more (in case the roots there haven't got any or much colour on them.)I 5)You can do long hair,but older(pre- used caps are best)and turning your hook to a more oblique angle will make finer highlights.Too thick highlights can be pulled back through carefully with the other end of the crochet hook by sweeping down under the cap Cheers Elton
@bettytigers2 жыл бұрын
Keep using the cap, you can even cut a ripped one up, for just doing the bangs, (fringe in England). Another technique that might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXKYn3Wcp5mGf8U Cheers Elton

These caps get maligned but they achieve really good results. They are particularly good for people who are prone to lightening to deep gingery blonde. With the cap you can develop and rinse with that cap still on, then dry the hair still pulled through the cap. If that dried hair still looks orangey it wasn’t lightened enough. Therefore you can add more bleach and give it another 5 or 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can use a blonde colourant and 20 volume to lift up that bit more and colourise the hair still pulled through the cap. Without altering the hair nor pulled through the cap. This cannot be achieved with foils, and if you apply permanent colourant onto highlights just achieved with foils, the peroxide in the developer can break the base of the darker, non foiled hair and kick up warmth. This causes the final result to look buttery or brassy. You just cannot get this same level of control with tone and colourisation with foils, as once the foils are applied that’s it. The caps are just less comfortable. However the misconception now is the caps are not as good as foils, but that isn’t true. It’s purely a comfort factor that’s all. Scott

wrong, I worked with my dad who was a master at cap frostings and. when you pull the hair out with the needle in order not to hurt the client, you need to put talc in the cap before putting it on and. dip the needle at a slant and before pulling the. hair out, the strand has to slide from the. point to the middle of the needle where it is thicker and then pull out slowly and detangle, I'm going to make a video to show how to do this technique and. you will see, I've watched him do thousands of cap frostings

Not an easy task as a hairdresser we've always made fun of people that use this product especially in the early 80s my father was the master in my community with a cap we have a salon in my community and my father was a staple and everyone in town knew him we were the busiest salon but people frowned upon the cap and my father was a genius with it he had all these young girls coming to him for the frosting I myself as a hairdresser became very popular in our community for multidimensional highlighting and I used a cap but I primarily did foil highlighting and block highlighting/ balayage in the 90s and well into today it's funny how things always come back. I think that the cap is underrated. And that the results are very predictable and safe I think I'm going to start using the cap again
