Gonna be honest, not entirely sure, but I don't think so. You might be to use a specific color adjustment brush and use that only on the shadows or only on highlights, but there isn't a specific color grading section in the brush section.

You seem to have completely overlooked the "disclosure triangle" below right of the wheels. This gives you sliders to adjust the hue, saturation and luminance far more precisely (not available if you have all three tone wheels selected).

Sorry to have missed that but it seems you already know how to use that function. Hopefully my video was comprehensive enough to at least get people started using the color grading tab with confidence and they’ll be able to discover the “disclosure triangle” as well.

Hi Josiah. I have recently started using Split Toning in my images. Mostly after I have edited in B/W. I had a set of go too numbers that I would enter in Shadows/Highlights Hue/Sat. That was my starting point. I might also adjust by using the Balance Slider. But the new Color Wheel system has made that process very complicated. Any thoughts.
@JosiahBlizzard4 жыл бұрын
The system works the same as split toning if you ignore the mid tones and the global slider/wheel. You can still input the hue/saturation numbers for shadows/mids/highlights. I would slowly just start playing around with the system and figure out how each slider and color wheel affects your image. I love being able to use the midtones to help create richer tones for my photos.

If you have a Creative Cloud subscription then you should definitely have updates available to you through your Adobe Creative Cloud account or hub. Do you know a way I can know the exact hue across from a hue? I try to drag it straight across to see but it doesn't stay completely straight as I drag. For some reason this is making me OCD lol.
@JosiahBlizzard4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's some issues with the color wheel I feel like that could be made a little better. There is a circle on the outside of the main circle where you can select the main hue color that you'd like and then down in the bottom left of the tab, there is a Saturation label followed by a number. If you just increase that number after selecting your hue then it'll keep the line straight for you without you needing to do any dragging of the color wheel.
@melissahall70094 жыл бұрын
@@JosiahBlizzard Thanks. I will check it out. I’m wanting to know the exact complementary color lol.
@sgvideo173 жыл бұрын
@@melissahall7009 One way is to add or subtract 180 from the hue number. I.e., if your blue-ish shadows are 210, you can make orange-ish highlights 210-180 = 30. (180 since its half of the full circle - 360 degrees).
@ZsoltGera793 жыл бұрын
Hello @Melissa Hall ! A few missed helpful tricks: if You hold SHIFT while dragging in the color wheel, You can change only the saturation by locking the hue. If You hold CONTROL instead of SHIFT, You can change the hue and locks the saturation. By holding ALT and clicking, You can reset each section, or the whole color grading setting by clicking on the label You would like to be reset to default.
@Quantdummy4 жыл бұрын
your grade, looking talking into camera is "Split complimentary" correct?
@JosiahBlizzard4 жыл бұрын
I believe so. Two analogous colors (orange/yellow and red) and a complimentary color (greenish-blue) makes us a split complimentary. The grade I think goes beyond just the colors added in post but work together in the physical colors within the frame. My green shirt for instance and the red hair light were not something I added in my color grade.

Different software company’s just do things differently. I think since the trend of “cinematic” photos is on the rise and all of adobe’s other video color correction software have this same color grading layout, it just made sense to finally introduce it to Lightroom.
@oriomenoni76514 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure to understand the difference between Blending and Balance.
@JosiahBlizzard4 жыл бұрын
Think of blending in percentage based. 0% would be almost none of that color making it’s way into the image. 100% would be all of it getting into the image. Balance is if you’re leaning more towards the highlights to the right, shadows to the left, or mid tones to the center. Whichever side you lean to will emphasize more of that color.

For sure taking bits from a lot of other programs like Capture One, Resolve, and Premiere Pro to name a few that have this feature. Color Grading definitely is a phrase more associated with filmmaking, but with the increasing amount of people using the term to create cinematic still imagery, it was only a matter of time before the color wheels became a standard thing across all Adobe's color correction tools. I for one am super thrilled it's finally in Lightroom.

@JosiahBlizzard4 жыл бұрын
@@age2erre I’m all for improvement, but I do believe the way you go about critiquing others work holds a lot of weight. The best way to do that isn’t to throw out a harsh or rude comment because it immediately causes tension in the conversation (clearly because you’ve immediately landed on my bad side), whereas, if you came at me saying things that were positive about my work and then things that you disagreed or thought could be improved, then I’m all ears... but again, you’re just some random person who I don’t know and who’s work I haven’t seen, so your critique literally means nothing to me because I don’t know if you’re a Joe Schmo who isn’t a photographer or if you’re a professional who works constantly. Communication matters. Words matter. Empathy for how the other person will feel in response to your words matters. Just keep that in mind when you comment in the future.
