Yes this should work quite well for many "softer" gemstones such as jade, tanzanite or quartz. With harder gemstones like topaz it should still work since the drill tips are diamond coated, but that coating may wear off faster.

It won't be as effective as it is on lighter materials, like pearl and glass, but it can still be used for metal pieces. Thanks so much!

Bead reamers are only for increasing the size of an existing hole. To create a new hole you would need a drill.

All I can think of is a dremel type tool but you would want to check with the manufacturer to make sure it will do what you want.

I use a Dremel myself. LOVE it. I keep my Dremel and my Pro-Reamer right here handy.

Yes you can. For smaller more delicate seashell beads a hand powered reamer might be better, but an electric reamer will work.
