I'm using tera ghost on my gambit to lure in those skarms and archaludons that think they can sit on you instead they become set up fodder lol. Most skarms don't run whirlwind so you can easily set up to +6 and either crit or pp stall

(can't believe yt showed this to me late) 2 things stuck out during Kingambit's part: - it's there for defensive pressure - "The pressure it applies on your opponent to keep certain Pokemon healthy is immense" On the first point: A max-defense Kingambit with TWave and Rocks is... hilarious. It really throws people off balance. There's probably a lot of other weird things Kingambit can do; while it might "limit" its effectiveness overall, it could go hard on more niche/fun teams (stares at VGC sets) Second point: This one is a major eye-opener for a lot of new/casual players (the latter of which I am). When you think about how one of your mons forces your opponent to keep some of theirs healthy, it makes prediction and plays so much easier because *you're limiting their options by just having this dude exist.* I personally would love to see a video on that, covering "aspects/concepts of battle" that aren't too often put into words and analyzed, but understood by most higher-level players. Things like: - "Having these mons in your team creates pressure by mere existence" - "The goal of this team is to function as a Drag/Steel/Fairy defensive core while these other dudes apply offensive pressure" Because seeing the way you put those things into words makes it so much clearer for people like me who take a long time to realize them naturally, if at all. Edit: I was punching this in before the sample Kingambit sets were put up And yes, I agree Kingambit shouldn't be the rocker even though I did it myself once; the only worse Moves it has are Scary Face and Spite

@@williamchoi6561 It's usually best to switch it into a strong special attack and then immediately chilly reception so that you can safely bring in whoever you want no matter what your opponent decides to do. You can also set up a future sight or click a status move before you pivot out if it's safe to do so, it depends on how much damage you took coming in

Been running a Meow balance team with Boots CC Tusk and it feels really good to have that option given the rise of Skarm. I find Knock Meow frees the Knock slot on Tusk since--outside of stall--their switch-ins are often similar (e.g. Skarmory, Zapdos, Flamebody Volc). Also somewhat surprised that Gliscor and Ghold didn't show up. I think they're both easy Top 10s, but I can understand them not being Top 5 given the competition.

I don't think people would enjoy that very much-- a lot of the metagame is centered around countering the top pokemon, so there would be a LOT to discuss. I could write a whole college thesis on how the metagame warped around countering Kingambit. Still, if others express interest I may do this in the future!

Rillaboom + Steel is fun, Air Balloon Steel/Psn types can wall it short-term, Hatterene is pretty solid, SD Gliscor can setup on Spikes Gliscor, and Skarmory can Hstack on Gliscor.

No, I certainly did not. I said that they often play in lower ladder and play silly teams-- this is true. No hate, it's fun content and I like watching it. Both of them are top level players that certainly could climb ladder but they often mess around with bad teams in mid ladder.

The toxic immunity is really significant and poison is better for walling the current special attackers of the tier than water. Slowking is 100% viable though!

To be honest I strongly disapprove of AV Gambit-- removing the threat of SD makes your Gambit so much worse as a pokemon. I'd go bulky leftovers on Gterrain, with the insane recovery it works almost as well!

i just made it out of my first ost game! won 2-0 with some stolen teams, but going forwards i'd like to be building my own. out of interest, are there any significant differences between building for ladder and building for tournament? i'd imagine that consistency is a lot more important, but are there any pokemon that are bad on ladder that are good in tournament?

No, there is no major difference. Teams that do well on ladder do well in tournaments. There's an idea that since you only need to win 2/3 games, you can bring less consistent teams in tournaments. This is completely false. If you bring inconsistent teams, eventually you're going to lose the 2/3 (probably quite quickly). The only major difference is that you MUST switch up the teams you use. If you use only balance teams on ladder, nobody will punish you for it since you have random opponents. But in tours your opponent knows your habits. So bring OU pokemon, bring UU pokemon, bring Rain, bring HO, bring Stall, bring Balance, etc. to make preparing vs you impossible.

Defog Corviknight is nowhere near as solid removal as Spin on Tusk, but it IS usable. I could see myself using Defog Corviknight on a team that can take advantage of Gholdengo heavily and has some other means of hazard control (Cinderace, Hatterene, etc.)

- You have no Hazard control mon. Try something like Great Tusk or Defog Corviknight. - Your team also loses to hazard quite hard. A lot of mons like Meowscarada prefer boots because it will need to switch in and out a lot

It has good clicks but not enough power. Gliscor isn’t a good offensive mon. Sure it can run Sword Dance and Facade set, but you want more fast-paced and outburst mons.

You're mixing playstyles here, the Deo-S Boulder Gouging Fire feels like a Hyper Offense team and the rest is like a balance. The team has no central goal, which makes it very difficult to improve-- you need to eliminate half the team I'd say, and pick a direction.

Glowking is the best partner I'd say (with Ice Beam) to give Future Sight support and pressure Gliscor, which normally stops CB Zama.

Is it bad if I use kyurem, glowking, tusk, gambit, dragapult and gouging fire all on the same team? At first glance it is 3 weak to ground and fairy. But I’ve been struggling to make my own team this gen.

I'd highly recommend adding a Corviknight in the last slot if you REALLY want to run the top 5 pokemon on a team-- but you'd be better off picking one or two and building around it.

Ditto is considered bad (and in my opinion is bad in almost all situations) because it gives up a team slot that will certainly contribute and work well with your team, for a team slot that MIGHT be useful depending on what your opponent has.

You're usually just clicking chilly w glowking, skipping slack allows your other 3 to provide max value and boots means you don't really need to heal since you're not taking dmg on switching in. It's too passive typically to want to sit on a lot of mons and slack off, but it's not a bad move for sure!

Great thing about hex pult is that pult gets 2 great statuses, but it's helpful to have additional status-ers, likely at least 1 toxic mon. There isn't sleep anymore so idk if you need more than 1 or 2 other status mons in addition to pult itself

Not a fan. It can work on Sand teams and as an HO lead, but it's quite disappointing as a general balance-to-offense rapid spinner, feels a LOT worse to use than Tusk. Still, Swords Dance makes it somewhat threatening, so I could imagine it working over Treads perhaps? I think I'd use treads still normally, due to Knock Off + Volt Switch + Ice Spinner being great options

Gliscor drops off a bit because the tier is now full of special attackers that can either destroy or exploit it

Gliscor is probably #6 or #7, definitely top 10. Still, Weavile and Meowscarada became more popular, Kyurem is everywhere, and Skarmory can hard wall it and set Spikes. The new additions were not kind to Gliscor.

This is pretty solid overall! My main problem is that you lose pretty hard to opposing hazards. If your Gliscor and an opposing Gliscor stack spikes on each other, that's going to be WAY harder for you to deal with than the other Gliscor. Replace Gholdengo with HDB Dragapult running Wisp Darts Uturn Hex (this will help vs Zama and still provide some immediate speed). I'd also go HDB on Great Tusk, you don't need Assault Vest here.

Sure. I'll include a warning that these teams are NOT up to my standards though. I used these partly to fish for wins with the pokemon I was hoping to feature. The only team here that I think is really solid is the Kyurem one.

I'm trying to get back into the metagame so honestly any teams to get feelers on play patterns and potential cores are always helpful, especially ones that maximize one mon since it's easy to id strenths and weaknesses when the team is built for that mon to fish a win.
