Hey there, I'm the Plagiatus he's talking about that made the mechanics for this map, including the level editor. Let me know if you have cool ideas on how to improve the level editor to give you even more power over how to make a level. Jumping in to clarify the % question: The generator will add up the percentages from bottom to top and can never go above 100%. So if the first two blocks make a total of 100% (or more) and you add another block on top, it will never generate. In that case the base block (the first one in the very bottom that defines the slice size) will also never generate.

@Plagiatus only thing I could think of to add is when placing a new block on top it will have a preset % as long as it's below the total 100% but if it is over 100 something to show its over like % at 0 in red or something. It's not necessarily needed but would be a nice touch. And I'm kinda sad that in bedrock we don't get the diagram of the map your working on in the map creator, or on the map selector. It's a floating question mark.

@drshoots101 that is an interesting thought - some way to show that you're over 100% and that those blocks will never be placed. I too am sad that we can't do the dynamic preview in bedrock, I'll be keeping an eye out for new features that might allow us to do that.

Not really about the level editor but why is there no notification for when your teams bed is broken. It would be nice info to have since not all the players are next to the bed at all times. I get that there would be communication between teams but If players dont have a voice chat then this could make it hard for a player to know if they should fight a player to play back more so they dont die.

@@anthonybeaulieu26 I honestly don't remember why we didn't add that. I remember we discussed this issue and decided against it. Might've been a case of "we can't have it in both editions (which is not true anymore)" or a "it doesn't fit the vision for the game". I'll definitely bring it up again.

it would be really cool if there would be a possibility for a center room, i am imagining a single last room for both teams with a monster spawner, which spawns way more mobs than vanilla spawners, and the rest of the blocks would be air. with this current layout it would have two of these rooms next to each other, i think this is a slight oversight in the level editor

@@R520 altho it would work, it would still be mirrored, so all resources are double, if you would want to make it exactly 1 (which thinking about it would also be impossible with the percentage based system) it would be impossible

I think the more significant oversight is the lack of a possibility to generate a certain amount of blocks, or certain positions. e.g. it would be nice to be able to define a room to have a single specific block in the middle, or a ring of blocks at the edge. With the current editor there is no way to say there is a single monster spawner. The best you get is a chance to have on average 1. But that would mean sometimes there would be none, sometimes there would be 2 or 3. And they could appear in the middle, or right near the edge. An alternative for your case: A room of air, followed by a 1 wide room of monster spawners which they need to break through to get to the other team.

Quickly looking at the code, my understanding is that if the chances are over 100%, it will only consider the first 100% from the bottom, at which point it will have chosen a block and then skip anything above that (and the bottom default). So in the example you gave with (from the bottom) a 90% chance of stone and 19% chance of block of raw iron, it would actually be a 90% chance for stone and a 10% chance for a block of raw iron, with the iron ore itself having 0% chance. More in depth, it appears to generate a random number effectively from 0% to 100%. It then subtracts the chance of the first block with a defined chance. If it drops it to 0% or below, it sets it to be that block. It then continues for each subsequent block. If no block drops it to below 0%, it then sets it to the default block.

How many teams can you have? Is it stuck at 2, or could you make a plus shaped arena for 4 teams, or a hashtag shape for 8? Also something missing in the level editor is a midpoint slice. While you could just do a half-width slice, it feels like there should just be an option for a space between the tunnels.

A space between the tunnels? You mean air? you can easily do that already with a barrier block, yes using a half-sized slice. Currently it is limited to 2 teams, but we've thought about allowing for 4 teams. Haven't thought about a # shape for 8 teams though, that does sounds pretty neat, too!

That might be as far as possible without any serious rebalancing. Diagonal paths would be slower than straight forward and a vertical path would be really slow if you started on the bottom or really fast if you started on the top.

@timwoods2852 , you could make an octagon (like this 🛑, with the beds in the corners), or a 8 point star, where everyone is slightly diagonal from the middle (think the points of the star at the corners of the red octagon), it wouldn't be as fast as straight to one of the cardinal directions, but would be equal for everyone and still not that far from the cardinal directions. Another commenter also proposed a # for a 8 teams game, where there isn't a room in the middle of everyone.

And I would like to give another suggestion, even if I don't know how feasible it is: The option to add a "crafted room" that the person can make block by block, like each team getting exactly one box containing a specific piece of equipment, or a middle room that looks like an arena, something like that.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any MC command that would let you output directly to a file, nor to the clipboard. The best I think you can do is by using some commands yourself.

I've actually been working on and import/export feature and already have a rudimentary version ready. It has too many limitations as of right now that I don't know how to properly solve yet though, which is why it's not part of the initial release. I really want to do something like this, but it's really difficult unfortunately. How do you get the data out of the game? How do you get it back in? And how do you make this in both Java and Bedrock? Best idea I have so far is to output the data as a string in chat through a clickable copy text command for export and read the text from a book in the players inventory for import. Unfortunately that's very limited due to the possible text lengths even with some negative space trickery to fit more into a single book page. It would be a little easier to do if you could assume players can access the world files and copy stuff from there, like taking storage files and moving them around - however this would limit this power to server admins. And it would be impossible to do in bedrock. So yeah, if you have any ideas on how to do this, i'd love to hear them, because I really want to make this happen, too!

@@Plagiatus Huh, yeah that's tricky. Exporting to a command_storage.dat file is the approach I've taken before, but I have no idea what wizardry you'd need to encode it to a chat message . I saw LegoBro use a pretty creative approach in Relics of the Deck, where save data could be transferred between worlds using Creative Mode hotbars.

i think it would be really cool but probably complicated to implement if you could set some sort of bounds setting with which you could maybe make gradients in blocks where iron is more likely to be at bottom then top for example , or maybe hard edges which would let you force half of the chunk to be a certain block , for example bedrock could be used to make an snaking S shaped arena which would create chokepoints to fight at

the "team" is just me. And I write individual commands directly for Java Edition, for Bedrock I'm using Typescript with the official Minecraft Scripting API.

Hey Xisuma, i've been experimenting with the level editor on Java Edition & custom suspicious gravel/sand blocks, but found that the suspicious blocks disappear when i save and load my level. Hope this can be fixed as i thought using suspicious blocks was a very creative idea.

Could you maybe add an "export" button in the file selector? So that you export your map to a location where people can download it ingame. It would also require a download button where you can choose a community created map that you want to play. Anyway just an idea, the game seems great as is :)

i would LOVE to add something like that, but unfortunately it's quite impossible to do that. At least doing it all ingame like you describe. I am experimenting with other options to share your creations though, maybe there'll be an update soon. It is quite hard to do though, so keep that in mind as it will probably be a while.

as the others said, Barrier blocks will be air in the level. In Bedrock there is a dedicated custom "air" block (as well as fluid blocks) for this purpose.

generally it should work, yes. Probably not for all blocks (specifically those that don't drop themselves when mined with silk touch will cause issues in Java edition), so keep that in mind.

had to do both separately. Originally I was reusing a bunch of my java functions in bedrock, but since I switched to Typescript for bedrock development the two versions have been entirely disconnected and developed individually. It's quite a different process in the two editions, too. The way you solve issues and do stuff is just very different sometimes.

I'm on bedrock and when adding containers/Chests we couldn't find them I played with the percentages and made sure nothing was over 90% and still never found one chest.

@Plagiatus thank you for responding! it was my mess up. Ok so after you make changes to a map before you press start you have to change the map to another, then back to the one you updated or it'll load it as the iteration before the update. Edit. But then again we played through the game and since I didn't see any changes I went back in to bump up the % on the chest higher about 30% while maintaining the 100 total, saved and confirmed then started the game again and it was the same game with no changes. I jumped out, and then back in the game, the map changes were saved, and after flipping through the maps and trying again, then it was the updated version, and lol wayyyy too many chests! So idk if that's normal or not. But maybe just glitching because we had other issues with lag or delays and loosing a few inventory slots, where they are empty but act occupied?
