Awesome video ! Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm literraly trying to chose between keeping my Ultrastudio 3G and getting the 4K for future proof workflow. Mn a MacBook Pro, I do find a big difference between MB HDMI out and BM Ultrastudio adapter

If you get an external decklink in an enclosure, that is a way to go 4K for a little less. I’m still using an ultra studio monitor 3G. Haven’t shelled out the money for a 4K workflow. But if I had the cash just laying around with no purpose tied to it, I do it! But either way can get you accurate colors. Now if you’re grading monitor is 4K, I would just go for it. But if you’re grading monitor is HD, the ultra studio is fine.

Great Video sir! What is your exact model of your Asus proart and DisplaCal calibrator?
@writedirect9 ай бұрын
Thanks man! Calibrite Display Pro HL. The display is the ASUS ProArt PA247. But I think the new version is the PA248: www.asus.com/.../proart/proart-display-pa248qv/
@ljamesrosel9 ай бұрын
@@writedirect Oh! I already tried this monitor but PA248. When I plug in my UltraStudio Monitor for that setup, my output display is not properly proportion because the aspect ratio of that monitor is 1920x1200. And my davinci resolve output is 1920x1080. How did you fix that?? I sold my monitor because of that! 😅
@TadeoValencia5 ай бұрын
I think you need to clarify that is not working via USB C but with Thunderbolt, that is super important. Cheers!

Good point. I’ll make that clarification and re-upload.

I love this affordable alternative! However, I hit a bit of a roadblock because I also edit a lot of vertical resolution videos and this is all set up for horizontal. How can I set up for vertical and then easily jump back and forth? right now it just center crops the horizontal.
@writedirect8 ай бұрын
Interesting...try doing a CUSTOM output resolution (Project Settings > Image Scaling) and plugin the dimensions. Then set Scale Entire Image to Fit and see what happens. Also, before doing that you could try scale full frame with crop and see what that does.

Can I use a IO and connect it with the new IPad Pro M4 and get the clean image output on the iPad display?
@writedirect5 ай бұрын
I have not tried that. But a couple notes: you wouldn’t want to use the ultra studio monitor 3G because it’s just HD. And then, unless you can accurately calibrate an iPad display you’re still not accurate. I’m not sure the black magic design hardware will really matter because you still have a GPU in the iPad itself.

Good Job! Does Ultrastudio get very hot when working? Mine is warm enough.
@writedirect3 ай бұрын
You know, I don’t typically touch it while I’m running for whatever reason. It wouldn’t surprise me that it would warm up. But the temp must be acceptable or they’d have to put a fan in it.

thanks for this, it helped me alot, now my ultrastudio is working, but only when i use resolve , i can't use as a regular output for to watch anything else tho is that normal ?
@writedirect4 ай бұрын
Yes, that is normal. It bypasses the computer GPU. Resolve knows how to access and use the hardware but nothing else will. At least not your standard typical applications.

Hi. Your advice please. I’ve been looking for a monitor to use with Resolve and my Black Magic 3G / Ultrastudio boxes. The last two Dell screens I’ve had have looked for a 60hz signal and will only work at 50i, 50p, 60i or 60p frame rates. They won’t work at 24, 25 or 30. I noticed you have an Asus 24in monitor. Does it work with all frame rates with your 3G BM box? Thanks very much!
@writedirectАй бұрын
I have the PA247V and even though 24 Hz isn't mentioned in the specs, it's a standard frame rate that falls within the monitor's capabilities without issue. I use it all the time for 24 frame material (I'm not using it for 23.976 but true 24p).

Hi this such useful tutorial. Can I ask which version of the Asus Pro art display are using?
@writedirect9 ай бұрын
It's the PA247. I think the new version might be the PA248QV: www.asus.com/us/displays-desktops/monitors/proart/proart-display-pa248qv/

Hi! Your ASUS ProArt PA247 monitor supports 10 bit? the description for that monitor says it's a 8 bit. Does that really matter? Could you explain? Also if my timeline is UHD (4K), that doesn't affect what I see on the reference monitor that is just HD? I's just showing me the same thing but in HD? Thanks! Great stuff. Keep it coming...

oh interesting, it is 8-bit. thank you! will correct.

@@writedirect does your PD2700U work fine with the ultrastudio even though it’s a 4K display and the ultrastudio only outputs 1080? Thanks I’m looking into buying that combo.
@selvafria41503 ай бұрын
Thanks ! When using the BM monitor 3G, is it better to work with an WQHD monitor over an UHD monitor (for pixel to pixel viewing) ? And how many horizontal pixel can you get from the BM 3G ? It's 1080, but max 1920 ? Right ? Thanks a lot!
@writedirect3 ай бұрын
Hey, the 3G is standard HD. So that’s 1080 vertical and 1920 horizontal. Personally, I grade with a small HD monitor. It’s totally fine. If you’re going to grade with a 4K display, I would consider a Blackmagic Decklink card versus the 3G.
@selvafria41503 ай бұрын
Thanks! I’m with a Mac book pro so the decklink will not working I guess. The only option I think for having 2k and 4k is the BM Ultra Studio mini, but dam, he is at 1k!! I don’t personnel’s really need more than 2k output signal, so that’s why I’m interesting by the Eizo cg 2700s (wqhd). But clean 2048 output signal could be nice to have. Are your happy with your HD monitor (1920x1080) and the BM monitor 3G ?

@@selvafria4150 HD display has been fine for me. Eventually I want to move to 4K but not a 911. Also, you can get an external PCI card holder that will allow you to use the Decklink with the Macbook Pro. That combo will ring in way less than the BMD 4K mini.
