To heat it, You can just hang the ‘blender’ on the side of the aquarium, so it’s surrounded by the aquarium water

I've had pretty good success with the Ziss hatcher too. Although the bottom of the cone has been getting roughed up from the abrasion of undissolved particulates like salt and baking powder (to raise PH)

I know this video was a year ago, and y'all probably figured out what heater works best for you by now, but I just want to say -- the Aqueon Pro 50W is a PERFECT fit and has the added benefit of being adjustable and accurate

The tetra ht10 could be a good option. You can find it for pretty cheap on Amazon. Only has one setting though but all small heaters usually do.

Great video, you've inspired me to try it out. Gonna also use your paper towel rack idea along with it. Did you ever figure out which heater to use with it? That's my only concern with it, mine is going in my basement so I'm gonna need a heater for sure.

i like this shrimp hatchery! get loads of brine shrimp. so much have decided to restart my dwarf seashores tank. its supper easy and every day you get loads of BBS. No mess no fuss. Its a bit pricey,, But after using it its well worth it in terms of trouble free and ease of use.

Throw the lid away. Have the water at a lower level. Get a routine of making fresh live baby brine everyday. But you only need one twentieth of that amount even for the ten tanks you have. Use a coke bottle for the first 24 hours. When decanting to the ziss you leave a lot of the gunk ( shells) behind . Sad but true the best part about the ziss is the tap . IMO heath food is not frozen food. With a lower level I have around 1.5 litres of water and use 3 teaspoons of salt.

I’ve hatched brine shrimp for decades. Doesn’t matter if you rinse them or dump the whole water you hatched them in a tank planted for not.

In the bay area it can even get cold in the summer time. Overall no major extremes though for the most part. Though that seems to be changing.

I've got 2 DIY hatcheries built from 20oz bottles. My small fishroom is my basement. It's cold down there (low 60s) and I don't heat the hatcheries. It takes a full 48-72hrs to get a good hatch, but that's OK. Better than heating the room or fooling with a heater just for brine shrimp IMO. For BBS I find that aquarium salt is overkill. Kosher salt is cheap, makes a lot of brine, and is readily available. It solves well in the DIY hatcheries because they are typically fed air from the very bottom. Salt can't settle and stay crystalline. I'm with you regarding the rinse! Probably a waste of time but I'm at a sink anyway, may as well rinse them. Good tip about the tiny ice cube tray. I'll have to hit up Amazon for those!

Good to know! I wasn't sure how low brine shrimp can hatch in! I do agree with the aquarium salt, I was sent it so thats what I've been using. But $0.99 Non Iodized salt at walmart is definitely a solid value. I left a link in the description for the trays!

Hi, you have used it more now I think. How much salt are you using now on that brine shrimp hatchery. What is your experience with it now. How much works best. Can you express that with the number of eating spoons. Thanks in advance.

Awesome content. A point that you just breezed over about freezing them was a huge eye opener for me. I'm setting up a 20 gallons tank to grow adult brine shrimp to feed mod stage fry. Seeing how it will be a self sufficient tank growing hatching naturally I was just thinking of wasting all the excess when over population begins. Now I have my answer. Will have to put in a lot of work the first go around but will quickly be able to literally fill a freezer and have a very stable and constant food supply !!!!!

Please don't hang this on the side of your tank you guys. I bought one yesterday, hung it on the side of a tank that was probably a bit small (60L) and it was fine until I went to bed. Got up 7 hours later to find the tank drained, killing about 50 month old goldfish fry. It's a LOT of weight to hang on the side of the tank, and if I hadn't been so busy & had thought about it more, I'd have waited and made a rail to hang it from. Hope someone can learn from my loss.
