I use a shot of non stick vegetable spray (used for cooking and can be bought at your local store in the baking aisle) to get the pipes through. It's non toxic, doesn't break down the rubber, but allows the pipes to slide right through lickety split.

Awesome Rob saved me a headache. I wish I bought the uniseals from you. I was too eager to get my system together and after 4 plumbing/irrigation shops I finally found some $58 for 3 3inch seals. Lol Tradelink and Reece plumbing had never heard of uniseals.

Hi Rob Great Vid I wished that was my only problem with the pipes. Any how I remember a Vid where they used hot sand on a pan heated up in the kitchen on the stove and welding equip for bigger projects and filled up the PVC pipe to get all kinds of curves and irregular shapes....Yeah, get brainstorming with PVC pipes I thought ...just sticking the end of the pipe in to the can might do the trick to heat the PVC. Might come very handy with thick wall and bigger dia pipes.Heating temp is very eaven around the whole Dia and desired surface area can be ajusted by sticking pipe deeper in sand. To avoid posible brown burning marks etc. protect with kitchen aluminium foil. Maybe even the hot pipe can be stuck in direct in the UNI seal. I beleave the rubber withstands a lot more heat
@RobsAquaponics10 жыл бұрын

Can you go straight through a tank with 2 uniseals for a drain with slits in the pipe or do you need to come at it from both outsides of the tank and couple the pipe in the middle?
@RobsAquaponics5 жыл бұрын

Hi Rob, I know this is an old video but I found it on your website and found no other way to contact you. I am wanting to put a 25mm pvc pipe through a wine barrel. Will your uniseals be fit for this purpose or can you suggest another method? And would I need to buy 2? Thanks :)
@RobsAquaponics3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole. Thanks for the heads up.👍 There should be an email address on the uniseal page. It's quite possible it's dropped off through an update so will check it out once I finish here. The uniseals can be used in walls of up to 12.5mm so the barrel might be a bit too think I'm afraid. I'd say you'd be better off using some bulkhead fittings to get the pipe through. Is it for a wicking bed? If so, the bulkhead fittings should do the trick buy themselves. Hope that helps some.
@betheboss.online3 жыл бұрын
@@RobsAquaponics ok great, thanks for the info. I's for a bog filter for fish pond. I didnt think the bulkhead would work because its curved. I'll work something out. Cheers

@@betheboss.online You might get away with using a tick washer & an "O" ring. Have used that method myself. HTH👍

@mikewalker312410 жыл бұрын
Thin wall PVC maybe cheaper but it breaks down faster than the thick wall. So in the long run you mite be saving money now but you will be paying for it later on down the road.
@RobsAquaponics10 жыл бұрын
Hey mike.. We have had this house for 12+ years now & all the stormwater pipes coming off the gutters are still holding up well.. It's made to handle the UV & move drinking water unlike the DWV & Pressure PVC.. Have seen some pressure pipe that cracks very easy after being exposed to full sun for only 2-3 years though so will be taking that into consideration with the new build.. Cheers mate & have a great one, Rob.. .

Is uniseal able to withstand pump pressure so it doesn't seep or leak?
@RobsAquaponics Жыл бұрын
They hold up just fine in aquaculture & aquaponic applications 👍
@franciscoferreiro2043 жыл бұрын
soapy water instead of just plain water doesn't help more ? also some grease or vaseline if can be used.... i used flapper discs on the grinder to sharpen the tips of the pipes.
@RobsAquaponics3 жыл бұрын
The soap does help more but isn't always needed. 👍 Uniseal recommend that you don't use oil based lubricants as they can affect the seal between the uniseal & the pipe work. Cheers Francisco.

can we use this seal and pipe on a black water tank of a RV? I have to replace a broken pipe to eliminate the water out. Thank you
@RobsAquaponics9 жыл бұрын
dufryve Hi There. Am not 100% sure as it would depend on the pipes position I'd think & if there is any weight placed on the pipe. They're suitable for drinking water as far as I know. Hope that helps some.

I have read that Pressure pipe is safe for drinking water etc but waste and down pipe plastic pipe often contain contaminants and plastersizers that can leech out. What is your opinion? Pressure pipe like every else here is a complete rip off.
@RobsAquaponics10 жыл бұрын
Hi there.. The stormwater pipe we get here has had the lead stabiliser removed from it since 2008.. goo.gl/L7l37D Probably should of mentioned that but just assumed it would be a broad standard as it's used for collecting rain water for drinking.. Pressure is the cheapest for most but if I have the coin I would go for the HDPE water pipe or stainless.. Would make for a very expensive system but it would remove a lot of the concerns of contaminates leaching out.. Cheers & hope that helps..
