You’re not really targeting the hamstrings in a squat since the muscle length doesn’t really change (they shorten from knee flexion and lengthen from hip flexion on the eccentric and the reverse happens on the concentric, so the there isn’t much net change in the muscle length).

This is the opposite. Facing away biases glutes, facing towards biases quads. The arc of the machine means you have to hip drive when facing away leading to more glutes.

You let it go down to the lowest possible position, there is a stop and then you get out from under it.

Taco squat machine basically. I think the other way is the better exercise, but tbh the classic sled hack squat is probably the mich more useful machine as you can potentially get really deep flexion and really work quads - it's not really a squat, it's something else. A lot of modern hack squats have the weight in the wrong spot, which v/super squat machines tend to do better at - though having the weight in front of you largely negates the benefits. They both tend to be very lengthened-biased, but sled hack squat generally easier to reverse band to mitigate.

@@jscott4613 brother, any movement in which you are flexing at knee and the hip together never trains your hamstrings. You do a experiment yourself only do squatting movements for months and see if your hamstrings grow

Squats are a compound movement, they do hit hamstrings.

Squatting does work your hamstrings, but they will rarely be the limiting factor. If you're doing this machine for hamstring hypertrophy beyond newb phase then probably not a good idea. Clearly there is some hip hinging here but that is more about the general crappiness of the machine.

The exercise shown in the video is called a reverse V squat, for the regular v squat your back is supposed to be placed on the back bad. Best of luck!

Bro, it's not supposed to be used this way, ahaha. He's definetly trolling :) Just squat normally, if you wana do barbell squats. If you can't do them because of lower back pain, then use the machine the way it's meant to be used, lmao

Most of these machines are actually built to be used forward or reverse. Look at the pads at the top and how they are curved, it's meant for you to also face the opposite direction. I didn't believe it either for the longest time cause I agree the movement looks funny. Having many years ago used a v squat at my local gym for the first time low and behold.. it actually does show it can be used in reverse on the manufacturer instruction stickers on the machine lol. I never knew till then.

I use this machine or a hack squat machine specifically BECAUSE of back pain and it alleviated all of my issues and allows me to keep squatting. Squatting in general also strengthens your knees so that's just wrong
