How to use velcro rollers
Velcro rollers are a great tool to help your hair have volume, movement and beautiful wave. It’s not difficult, and with these techniques you’ll be able to do it very easily.
For naturally straight hair, this is a great way to get fullness and texture without using the heat of a curling iron or spending a lot of time. It’s best to start with smaller rollers at the top to create as much volume and movement as possible. This is a traditional roller pattern that gives a nice fullness to your hair.
Step one
Use a tail comb to pre-section your hair from the top of the crown to behind the ear, making sure the size of sections are manageable for you. Secure your sectioned hair out of the way with hair clips.
Step two
Begin at the top of your crown. Use tail comb to take a horizontal section of hair that is the same width of the roller being used. Take the Velcro roller and bring it all the way up to the ends, pulling up and out to create as much volume at the root as possible. Make sure all your ends are tucked in to avoid a fishhook.
Think about where you want your hair to fall-roll it forward if you want the hair to fall toward the face, or backward if you want your hair to fall away from your face. Generally you want the sides to roll toward your face to create a nice framing quality.
Step three
Work from the top down. Once you’ve worked past your crown, bigger rollers can be used in lower sections and through your sides.
Step four
Once all rollers are secured, use hairspray or heat from a diffuser to help set your hair, depending on how much you want your hair to hold.
Step five
When taking the rollers out, start from the bottom and work up. Use your fingers to run through your scalp, pulling your hair out and letting your hair fall in the direction the rollers have set it. Use a texturizing cream or hairspray to define or reinforce any of that texture and finish your look.
