How to use Writing Machine - 2D Pen Plotter Setup and Use

Hi friends, this is the long awaited video in which i have explained how to use the writing machine aka 2D Plotter i have made in the previous video.
i have explained everything you need to know to operate the machine. from firmware upload, software to use the machine, and software in which you can create text or graphics to plot on the 2d plotter.

the machine uses GRBL firmware which can be uploaded through the arduino IDE.
NOTE: the servo motor requires a modified version of the GRBL code. it will not work with the standard GRBL available online. i have modified the GRBL to work with the servo, you can download it from the link below.

once GRBL firmware is uploaded, you can operate the machine using Universal Gcode Sender. using UGS, you can run gcode files on the machine, send gcode commands, or even manually control the machine using the jog controller.
finally i explain how to create gcode files using inkscape. you will need to add additional plugins to inkscape in order to enable gcode generation.

Great project, I’ve been using my one for about a week now and that’s pretty much how I have been using my one but good to have a ready made grbl file (that was half my battle). I’ve done a couple of small mods which include, making the rail holes smaller of the lifter and drilling out with a 1/8 bit after it has printed, added washers at end of springs, put a hole on the front side of the gripper so screw is easy to adjust and lastly added 2 springs side by side on the gripper so it holder some smoother pens.

Can you tell me what I need to do so when I home my machine the pen (servo) moves up and not drop down and drag along the work surface? Whenever I run the home command (I have homing switches installed for X and Y only) the servo lowers and the pend ends up dragging across my work surface and it ruins my job. Thanks!

Hello, I did everything according to your video. The programs work, the X and Y motors rotate correctly. But the servo is activated only once when starting work. Manually, when I write m03 s250 or m03 s90, the servo goes to the same position and does not move until restart. What could be wrong, what settings affect the server?

when you open Inkscape -1 goto FILE ,2 sselect Document properities 3, now change the page width and height to match what you need.........also look over all of the available selections and change to what you need.

have you added microstepping jumpers on the CNC shield under the motor drivers? also you need to configure steps per mm, or x y feedrate, in UGS firmware configuration
