How to Use a Potholder Loom to Weave Yarn (Or Yarn Like items!)
First I started this video to just show you how because it's handy and fun to know. I have several large projects going and didn't want an empty channel, so I was coming up with some quick tutorials to share while my big projects take my craft time.
Then the video was still in editing and I decided to add how I was hooking squares together.
Then it was STILL in editing and I decided to add a show off my almost finished project that my squares are turning into. So you get some bonus tutorials because of how long it takes me to edit videos. LOL

I love this idea! I have suddenly become disabled in some ways so I’ve had to give up some of my favorite crafts. I used to do potholders as a child with my sister but it was her loom so I never got to do whole projects. My hands are getting stiff so I need to work to keep them nimble and since I always enjoyed this simple weaving, I think this could be a perfect skill to re-learn … and this idea to do it with yarn is so exciting! Imagine the projects you could make! I’m thinking baskets!!! Thank you very much for this idea! Can’t wait to go get a loom! P. S. Your eyes are BEAUTIFUL!!!

This is a great video! I'm going to be buying the new 10 inch loom, but to make a big blanket like I would like to make, it would cost over $1,000 by using their loops, which is, obviously, out of the question. This is so simple, using yarn, but I guess I just had to see it to wrap my mind around how you'd do this without making loops. Thank you!

Omg, I love the rewind yarn, makes a gorgeous hat! But, yea, maybe not for a sweater but nice sunhat, just saying. (I crocheted the sunhat on LionBrand site)

how do you keep the yarn on the loom as you lace it up.. the yarn keeps popping off as i weave and weft... adding the yarn to the loom?. any tips?

Hi Tracy, depending on the yarn and loom some have a tiny slit you can hook it into. Some you can tie the yarn loosely to the loom to hold it. Some yarns just sort of stay if you leave a long enough tail. You have to sort of play around and see what works for what you're using. Hope this helps!

You can also use a slipknot to hold it to the first peg.

Question: I'm getting a 12"x12" pin loom, can i use a 6 or 7 bulk yarn? And i want to make a block blanket how do u attach the squares?

Hi! That will depend on the loom. Different brands and companies make them with different spacing and the spacing will control what yarns you can use. With something like this one yes you can usually use a thick yarn like that. As for securing the squares there are a ton of different options. Sewing them together with yarn, doing a single crochet, and more. Any method that works on items like granny squares will work. I do a different method on almost every project.

Hi Melissa! There are a ton of different ways. You can sew them together with yarn, single crochet them together and lots of other methods. Anything that works for granny squares and the like will work.
