Oh my goodness you art so smart. I love youtube for just being able to tap into the brains of geniuses ♡. I've had this little plastic pot holder loom since my daughter got it for her birthday but she was more into knitting. I'm so glad I think I can now try to make some squares ♡. Thank you! I tried to work out other methods on it as if it was a pin loom.. but I have never used one so I failed lol. Very beginner weaver here but I'm a crafter, embroiderer etc so I'm determined to learn. Thanks so much. :). I loved your comment..quick as a bunny! :)

Then using the squares to assemble into something. I'm also thinking of stopping at the thrift store, buying an ugly (cheap) picture & making a loom from the frame so I can get some other sizes.

I use a completely different finishing method . 1st. I do a crochet ''chain'' stitch around the woven area by drawing up the loop of yarn to the top from below . This keeps he groups separated . 2nd. remove the weaving from the loom . 3rd. Single crochet the loops together adding chain stitches at the corner to prevent puckering . 4th I sew the individual squares together in a figure 8 pattern using a yarn needle . 5th Lastly , I join the chain stitched bits at the corners in the center of every group of four . _____ This method allows for textural variation and the use of an accent color .

I made my own potholder "loom" using wooden dowels. What I was doing is using strips of cloth from recycled clothes(mostly junk clothes- badly stained, worn out,etc.)to make my potholders. They are similar but not the same in that all cloths are not the same length and may require different means of attachment. I will try finishing mine your way but not certain I can do it seeing as mine finishes in the middle since I do not use hooks.

Hi Serena A potholder loom that has 18 pegs or nails in a 6 inch/15 cm span will need approximately 15 yd/ 14 m of 1 strand of yarn for each square if you are using only 1 strand of yarn. Double the yardage if you are using 2 strands held together: 1 square would take approximately 30 yds/28 m Triple this if you are using 3 strands held together: 1 square would take approximately 45 yds/ 42 m If you are looking for fun projects to weave with your group, then check out my etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/ncronefindlay?section_id=16231053 Happy Weaving!

Hi Deborah, sorry it took me so long to get back to you... busy days. I don't know what has gone wrong, but there are a few things that you can do. One is to use a comb and even out the woven strands so they are spread more evenly across the square - both horizontally and vertically. Another thing is to simply weave in another strand of yarn along each edge that feels too loose. Happy Weaving!

Only use 100% cotton or better still, 100% wool yarn if weaving potholders that will be used in the kitchen. Acrylic yarns are a hazard in the kitchen. If you are weaving blankets or hats, scarves, vests, shawls, then acrylic and mixed fibre combinations are just fine.

Hi Tara, You don't have to wind a ball of yarn off, just take one strand from the inside of the ball and one strand from the outside of the ball. If you ever run out of yarn, tie on another strand. Are you winding balls of yarn from a skein? If so, you are going to want to learn how to use a nostepinne so you will have cakes of yarn that have a center strand as well as an outside strand. Here's the link to my video on how to do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGS7d4evq66cec0 Happy weaving!

Very interesting video. Thank you! However, I wonder what you did, when chaining off, at the corner with the strand that you snipped from the ball of yarn. You showed what you did at the start, and then when you came back to the starting point, but not what happened at the diagonal from the starting (and end) point.

@@NoreenCroneFindlay I am grateful that you took time to answer me, but I was wondering not what you did with the extra long loop in the corner, but what you did with the loose end that is not in the corner where you start and finish your chaining off. You can turn the closed captions off.... I didn't know that they had put those on! Nope, no knot tied, just weave....

Is there a way to identify, then reverse engineer a weave technique just from visual identification?

That is really awesome. Can you do this with any type of yarn? I have a lot of cotton yarn. Do you think that cotton will work on the potholder loom? Thank you for the great video.

Are you using two different balls of yarn
@NoreenCroneFindlay
@NoreenCroneFindlay 6 жыл бұрын
You can use 2 or more balls of yarn or just pull the center strand and outside strand of yarn from the same ball and hold them together as if they are a single strand of yarn.

The answer is yes, no, maybe and sometimes: Some weave structures are very easy to reverse engineer, but some are incredibly complex. Some historians have been known to cut a tiny fragment and carefully dis-assemble it, thread by thread.

wow this reminds me of the video you made about darning a sock I've been looking for that you removed. Although I begged you to please post it again you did not and I understand it's your prerogative however it would have been nice if you'd answer yea or nay. I still think you're super!!!

Why not try warping with one strand of yarn and weaving with 2 strands? After you warp the loom, pick up the other end of the ball at the lower left hand corner and weave with 2 strands held together.

That's awesome, Carla! Please tell them that I am proud of them. If you go to my website (link is in the video), you'll see lots of patterns and designs for fun things for them to make. Happy weaving!
