That green A is the fully automatic mode. The ones that you showed (Av - aperture priority, Tv - shutter priority) are semi automatic modes, when you want your camera to take care of a few settings. The button near your viewfinder switches the view to the display and vice versa, I hope. You started to teach with the manual mode, which is impressive! Mostly the tutorial was good.

So how do i show my camera the lighting outside? I am taking pictures during the day but in the shade.

So if you have your camera on manual there will be something on the screen that says AWB (atomic white balance) press the Q button to move to that stetting and it will give you a lot of lighting options. It has day light, shade, fluorescent light, etc. I can make a short about it to! Hope that helps!

My camera won’t snap a picture

Oh no! Try turning your shutter speed to a higher number and make sure the picture is in focus. The camera has an auto focus, but if it’s not in focus, sometimes it won’t take a picture.
