Petzl makes a roll clip that can be attached to the top of the ascender to accomplish the same thing with less gear and you’ll get more length out of your 3:1 with less resets. Good video.

The tibloc and roll clip is a life saving combo. I just have mine on a caritool on a little prussik loop and I use the grillion as we usually do, pretending that it's a rig when it's not. If you need to set up your 3 to 1, putting the tibloc on with the roll clip is super quick and the setup is extremely sleek. And of course, you can descend down with the grillion easily and then attach the tibloc + roll clip for the 3 to 1 to climb back. Now what I really want to know is can you just take the sewn termination lanyard out of the grillion and thrown in regular 11mm static line that's used for climbing? If so then that opens up a boatload of options.

Cool video, is there a place on the petzl website or anywhere on the internet that provides more information on this configuration? Based on the manufactures guidelines it’s only designed to be used two ways and doesn’t cover this “z-rig 3:1” configuration. I personally use the same setup with a petzl tibloc and rollclip but can’t find anything that says it is ok to do so, or not.

I searched the Petzl website and was unable to locate anything. I will reach to them. The Tibloc is perfect, smaller and lighter.

I'm not sure of your ANSI reference; the literature for the Grillon states it meets ANSI Z359.3 for positioning systems. Is there another reference that I overlooked? Thanks

I actually forgot to say the 3, but on the back of the @petzl Grillon, it has the ANSI standard z359.3-17 or CSA z259.11-17.

I remember a younger female member of the station that I was assigned to years ago, she would never follow instructions to tie her hair according to policies. On one rescue job, her hair became entangled and she was effectively scalped. This injury ended her career and she is horribly scarred mentally and physically. Tie your f****n hair up!

Chuck a roll clip in on that ascender and you'll be jamming!

I just use a prusik and a roll clip biner. Same function, but lighter, and takes up less space on the rope.

Maybe add in a clip of the gear laid out on a contrasting background, or an animation? Kinda hard to follow/see in the video.

Ah..... that's a 3:1, not a 2:1

True. When the load does the work, it's a 3:1. Strangely enough, if you give the free end of the rope to someone on the ground, it becomes a 2:1 with a change of direction. Richard Delaney has a good video about this subject.

that's not a grigri. The grigri isn't ANSI certified. I just don't want anyone with a grigri thinking they can make a positioning lanyard with it. great channel.

The Grigri is not used in this video, just a brief history on it and the grillon.. both amazing pieces of equipment. Thanks for the comment.
