As returning player who hasn’t played in 10 years, I still can’t figure out any of these new systems for crafting and gear upgrades. I was lost within the first minute of your video, I continued on hoping I could understand what embellishments were with context, but I don’t have a clue what that means. Maybe this video is not one for beginners, but it would be helpful to define terms like that because I also don’t know the different crests by name so calling them out as examples doesn’t mean anything to me either. You seem extremely knowledgeable and I’m kind of frustrated that I can’t get anything from this video.

Embellishments are unique enchants, usually really strong. You have to do a craft order for an item with the embellishment you want. Craft orders are the worst thing that came to wow if you are not one of the few guys that maxes out the profession in the first days, aka rich gets richer.

Brother, I quit in Shadowlands and came back to this xpack and I'm also confused by all of this nonsense. I had a crafter give me a play by play for almost every single item when I wanted to craft a weapon and it should be the game that teaches you these things and not a youtube video or a stranger on the game lmao. I guess it's just another typical Blizzard system where you need 3rd party intervention to even try to comprehend what it is.

Yes, it's not for beginners. She's a professional progressive raider. That's why she knows a lot, but as she said many times: what's your purpose on game? Be a mythic raider or just run heroic dungeons/normal raids? I resubbed during midle of DF and this system was very confused. I just ignored and keep playing solo: doing dungeons/heroics, farming renowns and then I started checking on wowhead about these items.

best way to understand everything is just to join a guild that raids and have socials and a discord group so they can explain. It looks overwhelming, but once you get the system it's not that hard. You can have 2 embellishments max on your gear at the time. You can switch them out and move to an other piece. Also good to know crafeted gear with sparks of omen can be recrafted to get a high i level later on when you have the mats. You just pay a recrafter their fee and provide the mats. There are plenty of discord channels out there where you can find a lot of info. Wow can be very overwhelming when starting to play or return to after a long period of time. The game is way bigger then it was before. But as said. Most things are the same like raids and dungeons. Just new ones. And just ask help when going to start again.

The track matters alot to not waste crests. For example 606 -> 610 for champion gear already costs runic crests and 619 -> 623 already costs gilded crests so upgrading a 606 champion item to 610 is very stupid imo. As long as we have so few runic/gilded crests i wouldnt upgrade champion items past 606 and hero items past 619 with 1 exception and that is if you think the next tier isnt reachable for you. So if you dont want to raid mythic and know that you are too bad to play +10 keys just feel free to upgrade hero items to 626 cause thats your maximum ilvl for the near future

They are trying to make the game new player friendly in all other ways but professions is overly complicated if you're not familiar. Most new players I know don't even bother with crafting.

It's deliberate to obscure the microtransactions costs you're paying 8$/crafted. They even basically force it in pvp now too as of this expansion and make it the most efficient use of crests since 90-100 costs 45 shards and a crafted costs 30. Very shameful EA tactics

It's a balancing act. On one hand higher item lvl drops make upgrading way cheaper, but you may actually need to upgrade items in the meantime to actually complete higher level content. My recommendation is to upgrade items pretty freely when you're 575-600 ilvl, because virtually any kind of mid-tier content(delves,m0, world boss) will give you some kind of upgrade, so saving crests for lower track gear is actually kind of unnecessary. Trading them up is super inefficient as well.

That's only because the community has put so much effort into convincing everyone that IF you don't do what Naguura and other ex-rwf riaders and high end mythic raiders do then you're "wasting" your crests/sparks, that is not the case for over 90% of the player base, bottom line is upgrade whatever you like eventually you'll get fully geared and it won't take the entire season, if you upgrade mindlessly with no regard to any of the BS that is outlined in the video you'll be fully upgraded by week 4. It's not convoluted at all.

Crafting is in pretty good state right now but it gets complicated with profession knowledge and those trees. It could be a little simpler. I do like crafting orders system and i do like different qualities of resources and crafted stuff but it should be easier to get most of the crafting mats like Profound Toolbox. That thing is rarer than spark, it's expensive on AH and pretty much every crafter needs it. Apparently it drops from one of the delves from chest but i have had only 1 so far. Did all the delves on all tiers up to 8 (some on 9) and never saw that chest again. There is still a room for improvement. You can upgrade any item you want. It's just that if you dont have steady income of crests and valorstones you should only upgrade highest gear tracks you have since those items might stay with you longer. I wouldnt upgrade anything you think you might replace soon. In the end it's all about choice.

You can also get the pvp crafting stuff and craft 610 ilvl gear without using spark, i crafted myself 4 610 pve ilvl items from winning 1 epic BG and doing like 5 arenas.

Non spark embellishments are not a new thing. It's just the first time they are remotely relevant to high end players. The track matters when upgrading if you have trouble acquiring valorstones. If you upgrade the items you are more likely to keep for longer(higher track, better long term stat allocations...) you will be saving valorstones. They are not the most difficulty thing to get for people that play a lot but if you have limited time you might want to take that into account.

Gotta disagree with the statement about it not mattering which track an item is on when using crests. Yes two items on different tracks may be the same item level and cost the same to upgrade, but it is inherently riskier/wasteful to spend pats on lower-trackwd items because it is so much easier for a higher tracked otem to come around which would invalidated your investments.

Yah I think you misunderstood her point or how upgrading items work. It doesn’t matter because if you get a 8/8 veteran item it will be ilvl 606; whenever you get a champion track item starting at 597 to replace it you can upgrade it to 606 for free when it comes to crests. That’s why she explained that in reality just ilvl matters.

Embellishments are ~1% gains this expansion. It will almost never be worth using a non sparked piece of gear to get an embellishment, as the loss of ilvl will be greater than the small gain the embellishment gives.

Im at 2k since friday and all slots at atleast 606. And since upgrading champion pieces to 619 instead of waiting for hero let you "lose" 15 crests (606 -> 610 costs 15 runic crests that can be saved if you wait for a hero item cause its 610+) i dont want to upgrade anything further than 606 right now. I will upgrade my 3 hero tier pieces (1 drop, 1 for 1600 pvp rating, 1 catalyst) to 619 at reset (or 4 if im getting a tier piece in the vault or hc raid) and then im out of crests for another week. So no i would call crests being the problem and not valorstones

Appreciate the video, but this is yet another overly complex system in a game of overly complex systems, and it's genuinely driving me away from the game (as someone newly returning). I'm confused if Blizzard actually can't see how stupidly complex all of it's systems are, or if they're so lost in it that they think it's a good thing. Again, appreciate the effort, it's just not for me. I don't have the attention span to learn how 10+ different currencies work and all the pitfalls along the way.

She makes it sound more complicated tbh Here's a simple breakdown Open any gear crafting profession (blacksmith etc) from the trade chat The epic crafts that they can make have max item level 590. If you add a spark in the optional reagents, the base item level goes up. You get more sparks on weekly reset. If you add a crest the ilvl will go up even more. You get different quality crests from playing harder content. Better crests make ilvl go up more. There's an additional item called an embelishment, which is a sort of enchant you can put in the item. It's just a sort of scroll you buy from the auction house and just like the spark it can be added in the optional reagents. Check Wowhead to see which embelishment is best for your class. If you add the embelishment, the best crest and the spark and the crafter can craft the item to the maximum quality, you can get a 636 embelished item. To do this, there's an NPC where you can set crafting orders for other players, just go to the trade chat, see a crafter that can craft the item you want, buy the recipe mats from the action house, set the optional reagents you want (spark+embelishment+crest or just spark or just embelishment or any other combination) and assign it to the trading chat crafter with a tip. This NPC also allows you to recraft an item, for example if you decide to craft a 610 item with HC crests, once you have mythic crests you can recraft the item with them + small fraction of the original materials, you do not need the spark or the embelishment again but it does mean that overall it's a little bit more expensive as you to buy more mats from the AH. TLDR= Embelishment is an enchant. Spark makes Ilvl go up in epic recipes from TWW. Crests make ilvl go up more depending on their quality (Weathered,Carved,Runed,Gilded)
