Do you use Zhiyun Smooth 4 with Filmic Pro? Please share your experience.

Yes, I use, but I do not use bluetooth connection between both devices. Maybe I am to old (70) to be like an virtuose - I quickly loose controll especially when I am in the field - moreover an accidental touching Smooth 4 rings demolish my settings (exposure, focus, zoom). I prefer manual fingering on screen for Filmic Pro settings and handling. (I do not use ZY-Play app for filming because this app does not offer possibility of use max quality available for my S9: 4K/60fps. I use ZY-Play only for gimbal PTZ parameters modification.) Sometime I use Zhiyun Smooth 4 with Filmic Pro app on my S9, with remote controlling gimbal from Android tablet with ZY-Play app running in motion timelapse or joystick mode (main purpose is rotation for panoramic filming in almost 305 degrees, complete 360 degrees is not possible because of mechanical restrictions of Smooth 4). Adrian, you must try this option - motion timelapse with max 5 waypoints (as far I remember) is very impressive.

Have you tried unpairing the Bluetooth from the zy play app yet?

@@richardcroft8046Power on Smooth 4. Then activate bluetooth on smartphone and observe bluetooth comments. When Smooth 4 appears on the list of Available devices DO NOT PAIR but simply tap DONE. Open Filmic, go to Filmic setup, choose hardware, find Zhiyun Smooth 4 window, move slider to the right (gray changes to red) and observe messages. If everything is okay you will see 'Connected...'. If not you will see 'Searching' and a few comments - read, wait or move the slider to the left and to the right again.

I didn't see any "Ultimate Guide on How to Use Zhiyun Smooth 4" link at your blog. Has it been removed? Great tutorial, by the way. I was mystified at first concerning the use of the Filmic Pro app. Also, you're the ONLY one who explained why you should NOT connect your phone to the Smooth 4 via Bluetooth, but leave that to the app. Wish the Smooth 4 docs had mentioned this!

IPhone is the most compatible. Samsung and other android phones will have something not working.

@@videolane If the Android smartphone mechanically fits a gimbal such as Smooth 4 - it is not necessary to connect it to the gimbal via Bluetooth. Just mount it mechanically, switch on both devices, and play, nothing else. The gimbal stabilizes itself very well. Then it does not matter if the smartphone has a processor Exynos or Snapdragon - Snapdragon restricts some gadgets available in the ZY-Play. It's a little awkward to control by touching the screen, but this is not an obstacle. I prefer this than to control using the gimbal buttons and knobs. The ZY-Play application allows a number of fun tricks, but it introduces limitations that are unacceptable in my case.

For Android phones, I would use a gimbal that does not rely on its app so much, a gimbal like Zhiyun Smooth Q2.

I was very interested in the video you uploaded of the stabilization of in Filmic pro; You know that I bought a VIVO android phone with excellent camera features, but besides using Zhiyoun smooth 4 and DJI OM 5 stabilizers, the image that is recorded at 4K and 2.7K is not stabilized. It has a lot of vibration and I downloaded the Filmic pro application to solve it and only the EIS appears as the only element to use. Could you help me about it or does it only work on IOS phones.

Some phones do not have electronic stabilizers in the 4K VIDEO mode. Check the specs of your VIVO model.

HI ive just ordered a smooth 4 gimbal from amazon.im using a huawei p20 pro,unfortunately there is no image stabilisation app now on the phone i think huawie has removed it.ive tryed every way to get app back but still no use.will i get good footage still from the gimbal.dont know why the stabilisation app has been removed,any info on this i will be gratefull thanks...very good tutorial videos you have presented about the smooth 4 gimbal

In fact, most of the time I use the phone's native camera app instead of the ZY Play app. The quality is better.

The Zhiyun Smooth 4 does object tracking with its ZY Play app. There is no object tracking with the Filmic Pro app.

There is no joystick. So no way to rotate. Except using the ZY Play app in motion timelapse mode.

@@videolane Use remote controlling: bluetooth connection between Smooth 4 and the second Android device with ZY Play app in motion timelapse mode or ZY Play app in joystick mode - very useful.

I highly recommend this remote controll for programmed automatic rotation (use motion timelapse mode), it is very inspiring, the results are very interesting, the film is more interesting because it is not static. And you can film with the max parameters (my S9: 4K/60fps). For the beginning, try a 90-degree rotation from left to right and back: simply set additional points between start-stop waypoints in the following sequence (START point 0, second point at 90, third point at 0, fourth point at 90, END point at 0). As far as I remember there are max 5 waypoints available.

Second Android device with ZY Play app in joystick mode is fantastic for simple rotation (horizontal panoramic filming) but very not accurate. Horizontal rotation speed is a separate topic. Turning too fast produces an unpleasant image. Too slow - boring movie. For me, the optimal rotational speed with Galaxy S9 is one that gives a full rotation possible for Smoot 4, i.e. 305 degrees in 3 minutes.

ZY Play in motion timelapse max possible rotation is restricted to 180 degrees. Settings above 180 degrees, the gimbal behaves poorly. In joystick mode: max approx 305 degrees (restriction resulting from the mechanical design of Smooth 4).

The Samsung Galaxy s20 Ultra weighs 222 g. The Zhiyun smooth 4 payload capacity is 210 grams. So I guess it's not okay.

​@@videolane Hi, I made the following experiment: my Galaxy S9 with etui and UV filter weight is 210 grams, I sticked an additional weight of 130 grams, all together weight is 340. My Smooth 4 works without any problems. Possible that the battery is operated harder.

Correction: 340 grams is to much. After 90 seconds gimbal stopped action with 340 grams equipment. But Smooth 4 works for me fine when I use typical configuration with total weight approx 250 grams: smartphone S9 + etui + UV filter + ND filter + sun hood

@@steveh9193 I have some practice with Smooth 4 only. In my opinion this gimbal is okay for Galaxy S20 Ultra without additions. As I mentioned gimbal works for me with approx 250 grams weight. I worked in the field in winter (-10 Centigrade) and in summer (+30 C). Galaxy S20 Ultra weight is 220-222 grams so you have not to much degrees of freedom, I mean additions like etui, filters, sun hood. Galaxy S20 Ultra is slightly bigger than S9 - this may affect gimbal balance. Try Smooth 4 at a point of sale: mount the Galaxy S20 Ultra, briefly balance the gimbal (watch a few videos on KZbin, the balance doesn't have to be perfect), turn on the gimbal and play, wave the gimbal, force it to work. It's very simple, you don't need Bluetooth or the ZY-Play app, you don't even need to launch any other movie app. Be sure gimbal battery is fully charged.
