Orange clip to the left is the coolant temp sending unit, it sends the signal to the gauge inside the car. It has one wire going to the gauge inside car, and it gets it’s ground from the thread which touches the whole thermostat housing bolted into the engine block that’s grounded. The one he removed with gray clip is the engine temp sensor which sends info to computer, NOT to the gauge. NOTE: if your thermostat housing where these two pieces are mounted is plastic, that means it must have two wires one going to gauge and one going to ground, that’s because plastic housing cannot be grounded when bolted onto engine block. Just know RED clip is sending unit to gauge (plunger shape tip)and GRAY is engine temp sensor (come shape tip)

I'm not very smart, can someone answer me this,,, do I have to drain the coolant before I take out the sender.to replace the sender?
@tonywatts20427 ай бұрын
Long story short, I got the code that the ect sensor went bad, my sender was working fine, but I originally drained the coolant when I replaced the sensor and sender, I also changed the thermostat/gasket when I did all this, I test drove the truck and the sensor seems to be working fine, I don't know if I need to just tighten down the sender or what,
@DixieDrivethru2 жыл бұрын
The sensor he pulled was the engine temp sensor. The other sensor next to it is the water temp sensor. That’s the one that goes to the gauge in the cab.. The one that’s to the left. (Orange clip)

So the orange clip is the one for the gauge? Having a tough time trying to buy both. They literally not that specific online

The red sensor (1 wire )is for the gauge. The black one (2 wire) is for the computer.

Whats is the solution , do you leave the new sensor you bougth and in what hole? Ande if you bought a new sensor in what hole do you puted this one?
@dustytales58296 ай бұрын
I ended up leaving the new (grey one) in the right hole. Then bought a new gauge sensing sensor (brown one) and putting it in the left hole. It was the left hole that had the wrong sensor in it.

If you know how to splice in, just find a two tailed connector and only wire in one!

@jeffreypetree71632 жыл бұрын
@@GLEECED you too ? Got any idea why ? Or what ? Can keep it from working. On my 98 ranger 3.0 it has the coolant temp sensor with only one wire. The other coolant temp sensor or sending unit has two wires . I had to search for the right coolant temp sending unit / sensor to match the old one. May take out the coolant temp sensor again with one wire and put in the other sensor see if it works . see i bought a sensor off line for the sending unit/ sensor and when i plugged it in my truck wouldn't start. So i unplugged it and it started. So i then knew they gave me the wrong one. So i found one that matched the old one at auto zone. Put it in plugged it in and truck started no problem. But my gauge didn't work. So the new one that wouldn't let my truck start maybe the one for the one wire input ? Going to try and switch see if that makes a difference. Only other thing is to get a test light and check the sensor wires that's my thought.
@GLEECED2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I bought both sensors from autozone , the ones on my truck looked stock never been changed so I just did one by one put them in the right spot and didn’t work . I think it could be my cluster because all the other gauges work but not the coolant so it could be shot. But I’m gonna get a circuit tester or whatever and test the wires or check if there’s a fuse or something

Which sensor controls the heat inside the cab? Does anyone know, cause my hoses are hot but i don't have heat only warm or is it something else?
@dustytales58299 ай бұрын
The red one is for the temperature gauge . The other one is for the computer. But sensors do not control anything, they read temperature. If your heater is not working correctly, it’s most likely the heater core is clogging and / or the thermostat is not working correctly.
