I think you did a very fair job and good explanation of roofing details.The only thing I would have done differant is one side of the skylight was close enough to the valley.Maybe you could have just run it into the valley metal.Bummer the tile pans ended on top of the high side of the tile.I realize sometime it just works out that way.I used to work for Letner.Been around.

I enjoyed the instructional portions of the video. Two suggestions or three. 1. Stop waving the camera around. It's very hard to view the progress and sort of hides the mistakes. 2. Read the crits from other viewers. They will help you with your cred. 3. Stop yelling and bragging into the camera while viewing. The neighborhood is filled with quality work. "In quietness and confidence shall be your strength" Isaiah You"re lucky to have the men helping you. They're your currency. Give them credit and pay the well.

At 4:15, is that the final product!? Caulked cuz he cut it so short and left the tails for the water to ramp off. What ever water doesn't run off that tab ain't going uphill over that tile below and have to get past the rtw blocking the tilepan. It'll clog and jump the metal right under that valley flashing. I would make my guy rip that up and redo right with a cricket that isn't short to the tilepan. Run the tile pan to drain to the valley. Hope you at the least finger smoothed that caulk my friend. Jobs site is clean and you are laying the tile fast, I'll give you that. Some of the metalwork and other details I'm seeing doesn't make sense to me though and are the cause of many of the leak repairs I do today.

The flashing at the base of the skylight goes UNDER the flashing coming down. Not over Think the way water moves down the roof. You dont want water to be directed Under flashing but Over flashing. Another problem is Kicking in the tile when you are replacing a broken tile…. If you kick it in you risk ripping the tar paper. Always lift up the tiles and SET them in. Not scuffed in like risking damage to the tar paper.

the flashing on the front of the sky light should go on before the channel on the sides ( never rely on mastic or caulking) also the back pan should be folded a couple inches from the actual corner so the water drains well away from the face of the chanel

I have no seen yet a roofer that says another roofer did a or is doing a good job, there are always something to say about the other guy ... That is good tho...because it shows that you have a different perspective of the world ...it's doesn't mean you are right tho.

For the people that live in the hot areas and your roofer wants to install self stick membrane read this:\ self stick membrane seal the roof completely and don't let your house "breath' at all , you will have to install a lot of dormer vents to prevent damaged to the interior of your house such as mold to the drywall , the paint will peel off , the interior of the closets will sweat and you will see mold growing ...etc... The roofer really has to know when and how to install self stick membranes , so please read the manufacturer's specifications before doing such an investment . and last ...Remember the house you live in is probably 30 to 50 years old and has been there with a roof that was installed by the old school roofer but yet ...it lasted the time it supposed to last . So it's not the materials people ...it's the roofer that has to do the magic !! Greetings to all the retired roofers from the 30's ,50's ,70's !! You rock Guys !!!

Do you think Eric knows that his saw blade is on backward in this video? 8.05 shows it clearly facing the wrong direction.
@Garciasroofing8 жыл бұрын
yes I know is backwards , the reason : is to blow the tile dust to the front away from your face as you cut tiles, you don't want the dust all over your clothes and face .
@MrThedocholiday8 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm glad to hear that you put it that way on purpose. It's no fun eating tile dust but the only time it blows back at me is when I'm cutting into the wind. So I always try to cut with the wind & not against. Like I said, glad to hear that you have a reason for the way you do it.

lol.. I don't like those valley metals for tile roofs, they tend to leak much more quicker than the ones with the extra borders. Also.. I could cut that valley quicker, just as straight, without a chalk line, with a cut-off saw w/ 12inch blade. Good job anyways. Clean work, just like how I like it.
@Garciasroofing9 жыл бұрын
1: The metal is 26 Gage it's found at any materials supply like ABC, Allied , Pacific Supply , Etc... 2: The use of battens it's a requirement sir ...not something you have to install in any roof , if you are a roofer you supposed to know that battens don't let the water run under the felt freely , so you only have to use them when the roof is steeper than 5/12 to prevent the tiles from slipping down . 3: There are no missing cuts on the valley sir and every manufacturer says that the minimum head lap is 3 inches, the tile it's 17 inches so every tile on the video it's at 14 inches , some are at 13.5 depending on how you finish the roof on the ridge. 4: I'm installing the tile according to my region sir , I don't live in Texas or Oregon or Canada, I live in beautiful Southern California here the minimum requirements are : 1 single layer of 30 Lbs. felt ( I used 2 layers by the way ), you have to install the products depending on the region you are in sir remember that please , just because in rainy areas use self stick membranes ...it's doesn't mean you are going to use them everywhere.

Hey I've been looking at your videos, me dan risa. But how much on average does it cost to do a 100' by 60' house with this tile average just to think about it. How much is the cost in material. And what is the advantage of tile vs shingles.
@Garciasroofing9 жыл бұрын
R III Ruiz Lol, 100 feet ? x 60? feet....that's 60 squares call any roofing supplier they should give you a free estimate base on your measurement. The tile will last longer than the shingles and it can be re-used just replace the underlayment and the cost is about 80 bucks more per square than shingles.
@Garciasroofing9 жыл бұрын
R III Ruiz you are looking at 200 bucks per square roughly , plus the labor of removal and installation, If you do it yourself probably you will save the removal and installation.I don't know if you are roofer or not ?

The standards are so different around the world.... at a basic level, concrete and clay tiles have a 50-year guarantee, and any flashings, fixings, etc should be equal to that.... caulking, mastic and metal are not equal to the material. Unfortunately, you make claims of 'best' roofing but I'm not seeing that.
