Many ESCAM are compatible with P2P Cam protocol so no need to set anything into your router, install some app like P2PWifiCam on Android, type the serial number aaaa-1111-bbbb serial number of the camera and that's it. But unfortunately the access security level for Escam cameras is very bad.

Wonderfull, it works flawlessly on my Cube Hi8 tablet running on Android 4.4 and eScam Brick QD900 Wifi. Great tip! Works even easier with the QR code on the camera's box, very simple.

Thank you ! This is very informative.. but I have 2 questions if possible; the first: is that rtsp "link style" applicable for all IP cams? if not how did you know it? and how to fetch a link for another brands? .. the second: if I have this cam connected to the NVR; what IP should I use? the NVR's ? .. THANKS IN ADVANCE ..
@insanity547 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! No, the rtsp link style is not applicable for all IP cameras. For my camera, I found the link style by searching the internet for something similar to "ESCAM Snail QD500 view in VLC" and I found a forum which mentioned the URL to use. If the URL is not documented online, another way to find the URL would be to use a packet sniffer software such as Wireshark (advanced technique) to find out the URL the camera software uses to view the camera feed. For your second question, I'm not sure what you mean by NVR. Is that a home router? Yes you would use the home router's external IP address.
@mibrahim42457 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply, yes I mean the network video recorder that connects to the cam and records the videos on external HDD.. I think yes, we'll use the NVR's IP because that's why its there for! to assign 1 IP address for multiple cams...

Yes this is a horribly unsecure way to access your camera. Instead setup a ddns the same, then use a vpn server setup on your router or a device on your network. Then use like OpenVpn client to connect to it then you're able to browse your home network on a securely encrypted tunnel. One can also use this vpn connection to surf public wifi securely.

Good tutorial for non technical people but I'd just like to add that even setting username & password on the camera is false security. These cheap cameras don't support ssl/tls and your network traffic are open to all to see. One solution is to use a proxy that does SSL with the external interface, and clear with the internal.
@insanity547 жыл бұрын
You're right about username/password combos being shite security though. The only way I'd use this camera is if it were on a VPN. (This tutorial was the whole of it's use)

insanity54 if you are accessing your camera from your office and your laptop is connected to the ethernet port, then your colleagues on the same network could potentially see all the packets depending on how your office network is set up. In your example, the laptop connection is tethered thru the phone so your data are encrypted thru 4G from device to your Telco. It's a little better but still not very good. Usage of username & password are no good if they are not encrypted. Imagine accessing your Gmail over http (no s)

Again I would say this this is still a very good tutorial. It serves as a good starting point on how to jump through the various hoops in the router settings, ddns using no-ip.org. There are others who mentioned about P2P automated setup. Personally I would not recommend those to anyone. It's good technology but seeing it being implemented by unknown Chinese cameras, who knows what goes behind the scene. It's better to have a basic understanding of networking.
@insanity547 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I didn't think about the case of office networks just now. That reminds me of Andreas Antonopolous describing how corporate intranets are riddled with insecurities because the assumption that attackers can't access that network. Whereas services exposed to the public internet are generally more secure because they have to be secure. Yep there's a whole slew of IoT that employ horribly broken security paradigms. I read about them all the time. I see hope in products like Ubuntu Snappy but really the Internet is crazy, man (yet exciting!)

Thanks, I appreciate it. My goal for this video was really to teach port forwarding, the request for an ES-Cam tutorial just happened to coincide with that vision. Yeap I agree with your opinion on the p2p method. It has so little documentation and can't be audited.

So, I want to set up an ip camera with a delay of 45 seconds, hosted on a raspberry pi. Any advice on which programs to use? I thought nginx, ffmpeg and vlc could do the trick but I still have to do more research!
@insanity547 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a fun project! The tools you listed should be enough to do the job. ffmpeg incantations are always a challenge!

Could you connect multiple cams this way ?
@insanity547 жыл бұрын
Maybe. Depends on your router's software. You'd have to use a different external port for each camera.

Would the switch really be needed?
@insanity548 жыл бұрын
No. If your home router had a switch built in, the separate switch wouldn't be needed.

I have the same camera and can't get it to work through my phone or the PC. It's installed on my phone and I can move it like it's supposed to move. But in the screen, it always says 'Buffering, please wait'. I've tried many times and waited for an hour, but it never actually shows what the camera sees, just a black screen.
