After trying this method, I can give everyone here a definitive response. The method is absolutely sound and this dude has probably browned a few tees before getting it right. The proportions are absolutely key here. Be sure to measure no more than an 1/8th of a cup per 1000 ml of water. I tested with a 1/4 of a cup per 1000 ml and it was too much, t-shirts were getting the slight brown tinge after washing. When using 1/8 cup of bleach, the t-shirt fades to a more naturally faded black and the key is repetition. Do repeated washes with 1/8 cup of bleach until the tee is faded to your taste. I have ruined 2 t-shirts using slightly too much bleach to discover the correct method. Use 1/8 cup of bleach per 1000 ml, rinse and repeat to taste. 👌😊
@danielcarrillo189 Жыл бұрын
Hey whats up brotha! Had a question, if I wanna wash more than one shirt do I follow this formula? 1000ml per shirt + 1/8ths cup of bleach per shirt? So If I want 5 shirts it’ll be 5000ml + 1/8th cups 5 times?

The brown colour is because some "black" dyes are just really really dark brown (some blacks are actually really dark blue instead). Pigments are different and often based on price. Unless you know for sure what dye was used just do a small test on a concealed part of the fabric with 100% bleach and a small drop or even spray using a toothbrush and flicking it on to see what colour the dye actually is and how it might turn out.
@michaelphelan2671 Жыл бұрын
Wrong, this response is borne of failed attempts at dyeing with bleach. The quantity of bleach used in term of proportion of water and repetition is key to getting the fade right.

thanks for the video, 2 things I would add: 1) how much water the washing machine is using is crucial. if you're on a large load setting where there's twice as much water as the small setting, the ratio of water to bleach is going to obviously be completely different. 2) using hot water instead of cold will definitely make a difference, bleach works faster in hot water. Hope that helps someone. Oh and I would recommend showing the finished product in the intro to the video.
@gepettowins2 жыл бұрын
personally, i ended up using an 8th of a cup (roughly) of bleach in a mop bucket for a bout 10 minutes and it did the job. make sure to keep the garment submerged by putting something heavy on it if necessary and move it around every couple minutes so it doesn't get spotty.
