Ughhh, at 3:20 I messed up. Said the wrong thing. Meant to say: client asks for short but not clean, barber says “what do you mean? Short IS clean.” By that I mean, someone will tell me “I want it short on the sides but like, not lined up” something to that effect, and in those cases a clipper with a two guard will create a very tidy fresh look, where scissors will create a softer (messier) look. Then instead of putting a line up on the edge you just leave it alone, maybe buzz the fuzz next to the edge but leave the edge alone.

The best thing to do here is to just try different hairstyles, because tbh the barber doesn’t really know, because something that they think looks good you might not like, which brings their reviews down and so on, so just look at your hair type and just try hairstyles, some you may have to wait for to grow out and may have a weird transition period but just experiment.

Another great alternative to Shampoo for better texture: use rye flower and water! I used to do this for a year, it's a bit strange but really works. Mix rye and water to a creamy liquid (texture up to own preference). Let it sit at least 30mins, overnight is good. Make hair wet, work the stuff in and let it soak for a few mins (not more than 10). Wash it out. It mechanically cleans the oils away but leaves just enough so that the hair has a beautiful natural texture. My downside is only that I sometimes let the dough mixture sit for too long and it got funky. Also, the bowl with rye mixture shouldn't be left in the shower, looks filthy and weird.

Popped in for a quick tip with curly hair- when the barber or stylist wets your hair and pulls it tightly in their fingers as they cut it, they’re pulling out the curl and giving you a straight haircuts. Curly haircuts ARE straight haircuts, and except for a few very niche curl specialists, most curly hair is straightened in some manner (even if just pulled straight by hand for the moment it’s cut) before it’s cut. The way geometry and anatomy intermingle to tailor a haircut to the head isn’t exclusive to curls, wave, or straight hair, it’s all the same haircuts- again, except for certain specialty curl experts. In 95% of cases when I do a haircut on a curly client, even if they wear it curly, we straighten the hair at some point to check the cut, because curls can hide imperfections but straight hair shows them.

@thegreaterconundrum7 ай бұрын
Tanning is your body's defense mechanism to UV trauma - and that only gives you the smallest defense from UVB radiation. The UVA radiation doesn't even care how tan you are, it'll still slice through everyone's skin and rip your DNA in half. The sun doesn't give a fuck. Feel free to tan all you want, but we have a whole generation of 65+ year old boomers right now that look like toasted leather because they oiled up and sat in the sun all day, and pretty much all of them have to get skin cancer sliced off their body every other month. There is not really a way to tan naturally without any risk. Hundreds of thousands of years ago our ancestors would have given anything to get away from the sun. It's so funny to me see people talk now about how it's healing and natural. It's literally a humongous death ball of scorching atomic plasma pummeling our planet with deadly lasers nonstop. You can consume foods high in beta carotene, like carrots or sweet potatoes, and that can tint your skin orange. But science doesn't know a safe way to activate our melanocytes naturally to produce pigment.

Condition your hair when you shower and use a flattening iron not near the roots, but more towards the middle towards the edges (preserves a bit of the volume). after that, the hair might still be a little frizzy or not stick together well, use some pomade to help it stick together. Maybe I’m not the audience but I can’t find anyone speaking to me that doesn’t recommend a buzz or a type of braid. On top of that, girls and people in general seem to want flows and messy and my hair just doesn’t do that. What am I to do? I’ve just been buzzing it and dyeing it but people claim it makes me look feminine or gay and that’s of course not what I’m going for.

If it insists on laying forward, work with that. Figure out if it looks better swept to the left or right vs which of those it's more inclined to lay, given a little coaxing. Shampoo, condition (optional), and dry with towel. Blow dry on low with gentle heat, guiding it in the direction you determined earlier. Hang your head downward or upside down and blow it from below. It might take a little practice but you'll get a feel for it quickly. You want to sculp it with the blow dryer, which also adds volume and body. Don't blow it bone dry, you want to stop while it's just a tad damp and still flexible, but looks dry as far as the eye can tell. If you get a to dry it can become difficult/impossible to style properly. Keep an eye on it in the mirror as you're going and when you've reached a the shape and volume you're happy with, you want to hit it with some kind of product to lock it in. I like to put a thin layer of mousse on my hand, gently lower my head (pointed down) and gently dab the ends of my hanging hair. This gets you volume and hold. Then I bring my head back up. That results in the style I blow-dried and was happy with being held into place. You can make finer adjustments herei if you please. For most people that's probably not enough to maintain the style throughout the day, so what you do immediately after is hit it with a gentle mist of hairspray. Aussie Instant Freeze is perfect for this. It would be incredible to be able to simply blow dry and spritz with sea salt , but that's not the solution for our hair type. I'm very thankful to an ex who taught me how to do all this years ago, otherwise I'd probably still be rocking something short and tidy and boring, thinking it's the only option. Just as important, find a stylist who listens and understands what you're going for and can help properly shape and maintain it with cuts/trims. Once you get where you want to be, it's pretty low maintenance.

I find mullets to have a distinction between the top and the back. If there's no distinction, if it flows naturally from the top to the back then it's more like a Wolf Cut with side fades. With the 6 hairstyles you showed when talking about mullets, I would really only call the bottom 2 mullets.

Extremely interesting and cool that he's thought so much about these styles and takes note of what he sees.

What’s crazy to hear about this is I came to this natural look because I stopped caring about really styling my hair working during COVID. I stopped using heavy hair products and just started to enjoy letting my hair kind of be. I wanted to embrace my natural waves and texture so I let it grow longer. I’m very happy to see this video because now I want to grow it just a little longer.

Honestly Barbers literally know everything about you just by your hair, i mean i was lazy so i decided to cut my own hair (this was like 2 years after COVID, so cutting your own hair was not a thing anymore), it looked good enough, anyways after i grew it out, it didnt even look like it was cut DIY, but when i went to the barber, he immediately knew i cut it, he was able to tell with what thing i cut it, and was able to tell that i did not wash my hair for a few days, BTW HE EVEN KNEW HOW MANY DAYS I DIDNT WASH IT. Its INSANE

What gets me as that a lot of fellow guys confuse "trying hard" with "effort". People who you notice got a haircut appreciate you presenting yourself as putting effort into your image. Plus your lying to yourself if you think paying $100 for a cut ISN'T "trying hard", it's flat out contradicting if you want to appear like you don't have time to style your hair while paying a bunch of money to look a very specific way saying "I'm not trying hard".

i used to use sea salt sprays when i was in high school/uni, was going for the Angus Stone haircut and thinking back on it, it's still one of my favorite thing to use on longer hair

Still don't know what hairstyle i'd go with lol, been getting buzzcuts since I was 5 years old and have stuck with that ever since

I love his explanation, it's like he is really the one that want's the haircut and not a robotish barber(not to be offensive) who only does a cut after a picture. He is a really good barber wish I was close to him.

i think the reason why people want their hair to look uncut is because most of the time where the hair is cut too much it makes you look different and messed up so looking uncut is less risky

I’m a woman with natural curls, and this is my preferred haircut. Mullet, dirty, layers. Looks amazing.

Preferred for myself. Not actually dirty - just looks bed head, if anyone remembers that product.

5:07 is what I needed. I asked for layers but ended up with a one length man bob haircut. Berries and cream style. Not flattering, and I hate to have to spend all the time to grow back out from a flow, but at this point, it’s better than cutting it super short and starting over from nothing

Great video, seriously. For the next one, could we have more models in full screen so it's easier to screenshot and show our hairdresser what specifically we want?
