How to Visit High Force Waterfall & Low Force Waterfall in the North Pennines AONB!

Come and join me on a visit to both High Force Waterfall and Low Force Waterfall in the North Pennines AONB, County Durham.
High Force waterfall is a 70 foot tall (21-metre) cascade that lies on the River Tees in the North Pennines AONB.
The waterfall cascades in two stages over an ancient dolerite rock called Whin Sill that was formed over 300 million years ago!
It’s often referred to as England’s tallest waterfall but that title is often disputed due to the fact it’s not a single drop.
It is, however, the most powerful waterfall in the country as it has the largest volume of water that plunges through it!
It is part of the wider Raby Estate in Upper Teesdale and the northern bank is now a ticketed tourist attraction. But, you can see this waterfall for free on the southern bank via the Pennine Way footpath.
It's £3 to park and £2 entry for an adult. Children pay £1 (under 5's go free!)
Low Force Waterfall is a series of cascades that fall in the River Tees in Upper Teesdale.
The water is forced through a gorge in layers of hard dolerite rock called Whin Sill or whinstone.
It falls down the river close to High Force waterfall but Low Force is only around 5 metres in height. It’s accessible on The Pennine Way footpath. Lower Force is completely FREE to visit.
It’s a popular tourist attraction in the North Pennine AONB and also has recently been featured on Netflix The Witcher season 2!
The easiest way to access both waterfalls is by driving there as it is quite a remote area. You’ll find Low Force & High Force near Middleton in Teesdale.
It’s a 20-minute drive from Barnard Castle, a 30-minute drive from Raby Castle, and a 1-hour drive from the city of Durham.
You need to drive down the B6277 road and you'll find brown tourist signs directing to both falls.
