Kyoto is a popular tourist destination for international travelers to Japan, and many of you visiting Tokyo might make a trip to Kyoto too. Kyoto offers endless tourist attractions from its profound nature and tradition. However, I feel it's not the easy place to get around for travelers and hard to choose where to go in limited travel time.
So today, as one of the tourist that visited Kyoto numerous time, I made a visitor's guide so you can get the snap shot of the basics of Kyoto travel.

@@essie4254 @Essie The recommending places I visited in Kyoto first would be Heian Jinju Shrine which has a good Japanese Traditional garden and watch ritual ceremony. The next would be Ryoan-ji next to Kinkakuji which you could stay calm for a while. The final I could recommend would be Kiyomizu-dera and Ninenzeka which is the place having the atmosphere most people think of Kyoto and Traditional Japan. The one more thing I would like to advise is there are so many nice attractions to visit in Kyoto so I would recommend visiting Kyoto for at least 3 days to travel around there. Hope you have a nice trip there:)

@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Жыл бұрын
Hello, Thank you for subscribing! That sounds like an interesting topic! I'm not sure if I have enough experience to talk about them, 😅 so it takes time but I'll work on that in the future! I can talk a little bit about Kyoto within my hotel experience. For Ryokan with two meals, I liked "Gion Fukuzumi" which is located right in front of Chionin Temple. For relaxed stay, I loved "Westin Miyako" near Keage station. It's important to get a room overlooking Higashiyama if possible, and early morning walk to Nanzenji temple was a precious experience. But I liked the location of "The Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa", and "Nishitetsu Solaria". Both are near Kawaramachi - which is a center of the city, and a perfect if you like to walk around at night. I've stayed at a guesthouse with shared bath in Kyoto too, but it seems they don't exist anymore. Sorry I couldn't be much of your help, but I'll work on those topics in the future.!

Lovely stuff. Thank you. May I make two recommendations? Forget the buses and the underground; hire a bicycle. Brilliant way to get around - so much to see, and many chances to chat with Kyoto people. In my horrendous Japanese. Hotels: plenty around the station, but the Granvia is right there in the station building, and not too expensive. Domo Arigatoo Gozaimasu.

Everything you said is very correct. Allow for extra time, everything will take longer than you think! And on holidays the buses get very full fast and sometimes you are waiting for awhile. The day pass is the way to go. Arashiyama is amazing in the fall season when all the trees are changing colors! So many different colors!! And if you have time..... The Suntory factory tour is fun and not super far away. Enjoy some premium malts in the middle of the day. ;) Enjoying your channel more and more brother
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Жыл бұрын
Thank you for that! Yes, I agree about the bus. It can be super busy. The Suntory factory is the one in Yamazaki? I took a look at the homepage before my trip, but the tour was fully booked. You really have done a lot! haha. That's great you visited Arashiyama in fall season. When I visited in late October, it was a little too early for colors, but some leaves started to change colors and it was already amazing. As you said, I noticed so many different clear colors. I'm not sure what makes that difference in Arashiyama. Thank you again.

@@tokyokenchan i just couldn't believe how many different colors there were, all across the mountains. And then to walk through the bamboo forest eye everything is so green! The contrast was amazing. HI Kenchan, what you said at the end is correct. Always allow more time for the bus journeys as there were many times i had to stand due to lack of space in the buses. i chose to stay in omiya area as we wanted to stay near nishiki market and the shopping district. because of this choice we took the hankyu line to omiya instead of jr line. another advantage of staying near a hankyu station is that we could easily take it to arashiyama. it was a wise choice for us!
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you always. Sounds like you planned very well and it worked out! That's smart, Omiya on Hankyu must be another good area to stay. Randen from Shijo Omiya is not fast but takes you to the heart of Arashiyama.

I really appreciate you make these informative and insightful videos about Japan. They're very helpful for first timer like me. I plan to visit Kyoto for a day trip from Osaka in the beginning of June. Is it possible to visit Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Gion area, Nishiki Market and Kiyomizu-dera temple in one day? Which one should I put aside as an optional place to visit? Would love to hear from you. Thanks
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Жыл бұрын
If you can leave early, it’s possible. (1) Umeda to Arashiyama in the morning by Hankyu railway, see Arashiyama (2) move to JR’s Saga Arashiyama station, take JR to Inari station via Kyoto station, see Fushimi Inari (3) walk to Keihan Railway’s Fushimi Inari station, take Keihan to Gion Shijo, see Gion and walk up to Kiyomizu (4) walk back or take taxi to Nishiki market. Probably by the Kiyomizu temple, you are exhausted unless you are super 💪🏻 strong. 😅 I personally recommend to put aside Nishiki market.

Arashiyama looks wonderful to visit, Kengo-san. If I were there, I will surely spend a lot of time in the bamboo park and the tree-lined paths. There are also lots of transportation options available, and this means we can travel the manner we would like. I would prefer the slower trains, perhaps, so that I can vividly remember the beautiful sceneries. Also, IC cards are also accepted here -that's good.! Thank you very much for the insightful and thoughtful video, Kengo-san. 🙂

Gio-san, thank you for watching! I like your idea of enjoying Kyoto, such as seeing the scenery from slower trains and staying in Arashiyama longer to walk around the bamboo forest. Recently, I also found that’s the best way to spend time in Kyoto, in stead of rushing to tens of temples. Yes! It's convenient that I can use IC cards from Tokyo on buses and trains in Kyoto too. Would it be better for A) November 17-22 or B) November 21-26? As I know that early march is end of winter, I'm afraid that I can't get any greeneries there on that date.

The full bloom of cherry blososm in Tokyo was March 22nd in 2021, and 27th on 2022. Usually Kyoto is a few days late and it was March 26 on 2021, March 30 in 2022. Hi. It's possible. Not all places have parking space, but you can find some coin parking near the destination. If you are ok about driving in Japan especially in cities and finding parking spots, cost for rental car and parking, it's a good way to travel. I feel it's all about the difficulty of driving in Japan (left side) and cost. Have a great trip in Kyoto.

Hi, yes. If you plan the route ahead and stick to the attractions that you can walk from stations, it is possible. Arashiyama -(JR to Inari) - Fushmi Inari -(Keihan Line to Gion Shijo) - Kiyomizu would be good route. It might be a bit difficult to go to Kinkakuji, time wise, energy wise, but some people do. Hello. Thank you for watching. I think taxi would be the best transportation method in Kyoto if you visit with kids. Uber apps (also GO and DiDi) exist in Japan but you only can call taxi. I'm covering that topic in 2 later video but it's a great way to call taxi. Also you can just raise your hand to stop the taxi. It's not the cheapest choice but sparing some budget for that would make your trip much easier in Kyoto.

Hi, this is our first time to Japan. Which area of hotel do you recommend we should stay? Near by Kyoto station or Kawaramachi area? we are family of 4 with 2 teens and we are coming from Osaka and stay in Kyoto for 4 nights to see tourist attractions & walk around/eat&shop then travel to Tokyo (Shinkansen bullet train.) with 6 luggage. If you can suggest?
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan 2 ай бұрын
Hi. If the 6 luggage is not the size fit into one taxi, I personally recommend you to get the hotel near Kyoto station. A lot more choice of hotels and easy to get to JR lines and subways. If you travel from Osaka to Kyoto by train. Kyoto statoin is JR and Kawaramachi is Hankyu Kyoto line, and both can be easily accessible form Osaka (Umeda) station. But if you are leaving for Tokyo after, it must be much easier to stay near Kyoto station. Might not have much feeling of Kyoto, and not in walking distance to major spots.

Hi Tokyo Kenchan, I will be in Kyoto in August 2024. I will be staying 1 night/2 days. I have a JR Pass. I will be site seeing places like Kiyomizudera, Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest , Nishiki market, Gion area. Then I will be catching JR train to Osaka. Where should I stay in Kyoto? I am told to stay in Downtown Kawaramachi. However, there is no JR lines there. I would like to stay in a business area and be able to walk 15 mins to Gion and be able to walk 10 mins to Kyoto Station as I will need to catch the JR train from Kyoto Station several times. Where would you suggest I stay based on the info I provided?
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan 21 күн бұрын
Hi. From Kyoto statoin to Gion is about 30-40 min. by walking, so the ideal spot for you would be somewhere in between on the map. If you leave your luggage at the hotel, it might be better to stay near Kyoto station as it's much easier to walk 20 min. longer without any luggage than 10 min. walk with luggage. If you like to stay closer to Gion, that would be near Kiyomizu Gojo station. There are hotels like Avest Grande Kiyomizu Gojo, Double Tree Kyoto Higashiyama.

I am interested in getting the Icoca card. I’ll be spending 7 Days & 6 Nights in Kyoto. Will need to travel from Osaka Kansai (FIX) Airport to a hotel in Kyoto via Shinkansen + Bus/Train. My itinerary evolves around Kyoto only. Should I just use Icoca for every busses/trains in Kyoto or is there any other better option e.g. 1-Week Pass etc.? Hello. In that case, i think get Icoca at Kix with cash and purchase round trip ticket of Haruka to Kyoto (direct access) is the best and fastetst way unless you have special reason to get off at Shin-Osaka and change to Shinkansen. Kyoto only has one day pass for now, so it might be easier to get the day pass for the day you get around a lot, and charge Icoca time to time and use them for other days.
